About The Wine
The original cuttings that produce this wine were sourced from the variety’s home of Puglia in Italy.
They were planted on the Massena ‘Dadds’ block after a couple of failed attempts to make this variety with some fruit they were sourcing locally. Clearly, a stroke of genius. They now boast one of the best value Primitivos in the country.
The fruit is hand picked as full bunches, wild fermented, basket pressed and then aged in small format seasoned oak barrels with a hands off philosophy ensuring the utmost purity of their fruit.
Quality is the key here and at this price point, this punches well and truly above it’s weight.
About Massena
Part of the elite group of wineries in the ‘Artisans of the Barossa’ cellar door, Jaysen Collins’ label Massena is a force to be reckoned with.
After leaving their his day job at Turkey Flat Jaysen started his own brand in 2000 along with Dan Standish. Their mission was to produce wines that are in their own words “true to the Barossa style, being rich, warm and generous.”
Jaysen now flies the Massena plane solo. The wines have never looked better.
