About The Wine
The Latta Nebbiolo comes from a new vineyard this year, a move from the Malakoff vineyard to one just down the road in the Pyrenees.
The fun hasn't left the wine though. There are few Australian grown Nebbiolos that offer this amount of pleasure for young drinking and also slake the thirst of the serious Nebb-a-phile.
It's got a juiciness and brightness which makes it dead moreish and near impossible to put down. Owen hasn't made that many vintages of Nebbiolo, but boy he's getting his head around it quick smart.
Keep an eye on what he has coming next, there's more interesting Nebbiolo projects in the works too.
About Eastern Peake / Latta Vino
Is anyone working as hard as Owen Latta to put Ballarat in the mix of Australia's foremost wine regions? At only 15 years old he completed his first vintage at Eastern Peake alongside his father and has since taken on the full-time running of the business.
Owen is the man primarily responsible for both the Eastern Peake and Latta wines, the former of which being dedicated to premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Eastern Peake vineyard, and the latter being Owen's personal project all about innovation from a range of excellent central Victorian vineyards.
The wines are all gently brought to life with very astute yet hands-off winemaking, and Owen's low and zero-sulphur wines are some of the best examples in the country. These are thrilling, absolutely unique Victorian wines, and quite simply Owen Latta is one of Australia's finest young winemakers.
