About

About The Wine

Dudley Brown's "Blonde on Blonde" is as sexy as the name suggests - a 100% Viognier grown on his estate in McLaren Vale and he has judged the 2016 release beautifully.

Low in alcohol (by Viognier standards) at 11.8%, this has all the weight you want without any of the flabby, over bearing characteristics so often attributed to the variety. He takes care to build in texture to just the right degree. He uses a little extended skin contact and fermentation in neutral oak plus a six-month maturation in barrel before bottling but the wine feels so well "tucked in", never overblown.

This now regarded as one of the country's benchmark Viogniers with previous vintages being met with rave reviews and the 2016 is yet another cracking release. Mike Bennie awarded it 92 points.

Viognier lovers, welcome aboard!

About Inkwell

Husband and wife duo Dudley Brown and Dr. Irina Santiago-Brown of Inkwell Wines in McLaren Vale, are true advocates of sustainable farming practices and are self confessedly “fanatical about (their) vines and wines.”

The Inkwell Wines are all produced from their beautiful organically farmed vineyard while the Dubstyle wines are a range designed as a way for them to stretch their winemaking wings beyond the reaches of their home vineyard.

They've found some stunning vineyards in the surrounding areas to source from, they make the wines at their home in McLaren Vale, then like any great music track, they mix and blend the certain parts until the wine 'sounds' just right.

Inkwell wines have a signature power and strength which does their home region proud.

The Wine Front

"Complex, fulfilling viognier scents of apricot (flesh and the stone), marzipan, sea spray, oyster shell. A mineral-packed feel to the palate with supple texture yet shows a DNA thread of saline acidity underlying. It’s got some juiciness, light stone fruit character, zip and dart, good length. Indeed, this is a fantastic drink; perhaps not the complexity of 2015, but lots of charisma, without the stuffing. It’s sort of crying out for something savoury alongside too. Really nicely done." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
