About the Wine

The Blonde has become something of a Barossa Valley staple for those seeking the next wave of premium Barossa Shiraz for their cellar.

The Blonde is the more seductive and elegant of the Head Shiraz as a younger wine, but she's no slouch in the cellar.  The 2016 is a sensational release, the season naturally producing powerful, luscious wines in general for the region - characteristics that work well in The Blonde.

Gary Walsh awarded this 95 points suggesting that this release was "Succulent, balanced, and very long... Delightful". A classic release of this much loved Shiraz from Alex.

About Head Wines

Alex Head has had what you might call a meteoric rise through the Australian wine industry. In his short career as a producer he has been heralded as one of the best Young Gun Winemakers, not only in the Barossa but the whole country. With no formal training as a winemaker, the purity and balance inherent in the wines are amazing.

Alex has a passion for the old vineyards that populate the Barossa. With a keen eye for a good site, Alex has put together a formidable portfolio of vineyards which produce simply outstanding renditions of Shiraz and Grenache year-in, year-out.  These are some of the most exciting wines in the Barossa.

Additional Info

From the Producer

This single vineyard lies in the Stone Well parish and has a myriad of soil types including red-clays and grey sands (Blonde in colour) running the length of the vineyard.

It always show perfume and jube-like blue fruits, crops naturally at around 1.5 tonne to the acre and produces riper, plumper, sweeter fruited wines while still retaining acidity due to the higher limestone content of the soil. Sometimes between 2-5% Viognier skins are included in the ferment for aroma, to soften tannin, set colour, add texture, freshness and more complexity with bottle age.

There is also some retention of whole-bunches during fermentation over two weeks with daily foot-treading, hand-plunging and pump-overs. Maturation in oak is for a year in specially selected 300L French hogsheads of which 33% are new.

Blend : Shiraz (100%)
ABV : 14.50%
Closure : Screw Cap
Drink Until : 2030
Bottle Size : 750ml

The Wine Front

"Classic Barossa Shiraz with layers of ripe sweet fruit, all plum, musk and chocolate, and just so seductive and so well done, it’s hard not to fall in love with the style. Ripe and thick chocolat-y tannin, a mouth-perfume and a smattering of earthiness. Succulent, balanced, and very long. Smell the velvet glove. Delightful." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
