About The Wine
Mascarello are now the full owners of the celebrated Monprivato vineyard in Castiglione Falleto, and what a monopole to own...
Monprivato is the grand cru burgundy of Barolo, needing to age and evolve, perhaps even more so with the great 2016 vintage.
But patience can be reward with complex, ethereal and elegant mature wines, that often show mulchy, truffly characters alongside the purest of red fruit profiles.
We're privileged to have some bottles available. Whoever buys one, can we come round for dinner?
About Guiseppe Mascarello
Mascarello is simply one of the great Barolo estates, inextricably linked to the famous Monprivato vineyard in Castiglione Falleto, one of the best single sites in the world of wine.
Founder Guiseppe Mascarello managed vineyards for others in the mid 1800s, eventually buying land for himself in Monforte d'Alba. His son Maurizio took the venture to Monprivato in Castiglione Falleto in 1904, and set up the current winery in nearby Monchiero in 1921.
His descendent Mauro is now the owner, making very traditional, very long-lived Barolo from the best crus in the region. They are also very rare, so buy them if you see them...
