About The Wine

The famed Giaconda Chardonnay is one of the great wines of Australia.

Grown by the iconic Rick Kinzbrunner on the hallowed slopes on the outskirts of Beechworth township, this wine has carved out a unique place for itself in Australian wine.

Notable for its extraordinary power and ageing potential, it has long been held up as a bastion of quality Australian Chardonnay to the rest of the world. It is made in limited amounts and sells out without fail each and every year.

The 2016 is a hotly anticipated release. Allocations are extremely limited. If you want it for your cellar, you'll have to act quick.

About Giaconda

There are few names in Australian wine as revered as those of Giaconda and its founder/owner/winemaker, Rick Kinzbrunner.

Since 1982, Rick has dedicated himself to the pursuit of vinous excellence in the Beechworth region.

They are most known for their incredibly powerful Chardonnay, with Shiraz and Nebbiolo not far behind. Kinzbrunner's signature style is a rare combination of power and finesse.

For the Estate wines, production is extremely limited and they generally sell out upon release.

Giaconda is a special producer that thoroughly deserves its reputation as one of the country's finest domains.

From The Producer

Wine making should be subtle and always seek balance - this should never seek to dominate the Terroir or characteristics of any given vintage. Giaconda wines are hand-crafted according to basically a natural wine making process. To us this means indigenous yeasts are employed for fermentation, natural bacteria for Malolactic fermentation, French oak barrel ageing, minimal sulphur additions, and no filtration before bottling.

The winery, barrel maturation cave and bottling facility are all set up for gravity flow. This means the wines are very rarely pumped or manipulated mechanically. Instead they are gently moved by gravity or gas pressure during the entire wine making process.

In the case of Chardonnay, our fruit is hand picked, lightly crushed and then basket pressed - before being transferred to French oak barrels (approximately 30% new) for fermentation and ageing.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"Golden hue with a bright green rim. A complex signature of reductive characters; meal, the 'good dirt' and matchstick complementing hazelnut and peach notes infused with lemon zest and ginger. The palate is taut and compact with a strong mineral edge drawing out white peach fruit. A powerful and assertive example of chardonnay that combines multifaceted flavours with latent power. The finish is compelling: minerality and acidity combine to a rapier sharp finish." - Rick Kinzbrunner, owner/winemaker

"A glorious chardonnay in the traditional full-throttle Giaconda style. Very rich and multi-layered, it indulges the full paintbox of winemaking inputs. Smoky chicken-stock aromas, round and generous. It’s unfiltered so a slightly cloudy appearance can be expected." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine.
