About The Wine

Great vineyards viewed through the lens of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; that's Barney Flanders' vision for his Garagiste wines.

The 2016 Tuerong Chardonnay is an excellent example of the quality he has been producing of late. There's a power and intensity to this Chardonnay, a lightning strike of acidity, a curl of luscious oak but all the while the purity of the fruit and the characters of the vineyard remain the key point of focus.

An impressive 95 points from Campbell Mattinson and a truly stunning Chardonnay, comparable with the very best of the region.

About Garagiste

Garagiste is the brainchild of Barnaby Flanders.

After leaving Allies Wines in 2003 he embarked on a mission to produce small batch premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under his own label in his beloved Mornington Peninsula.

Barney loves the sub-regionality to be exploited in Mornington Peninsula, the slight alterations in aspect and soil profile within this small wine producing region provide him with the scaffolding around which he builds his stunning harem of small batch wines.

They are only ever made in small quantities so time is of the essence if you want to explore the world of Garagiste.

From The Producer

Garagiste's Tuerong Chardonnay is drawn from the 6-acre Robinson vineyard where the 25-year-old Chardonnay vines are rooted in the black sand over brown sandy loam of the Tuerong flatlands.

Harvested on the 18th February, this north-facing site was picked almost two weeks before the Merricks Grove vineyard, which gives you some idea of the pivotal imprint that the Mornington's topography and soils stamp on its vineyards. The warmer and more stable microclimate here cuts a wine with a slightly fuller figure than the snappier Merricks' wine, though the cool vintage nights and only partial malo give the wine the crispness of freshly pressed linen.

Hand harvested, hand sorted and whole bunch pressed. Natural fermentation on high solids. Partial malolactic fermentation bolsters the wine's satiny texture, but the fine, natural acidity and mineral freshness remind us of its cool climate origins. Barrel fermented in 500-litre puncheons (20% new François Frères), the wine is matured on lees for 10 months before bottling.

The Wine Front

"A beautiful single-site chardonnay from the Mornington Peninsula. Brilliant straw in colour but long and racy. This really has its skates on, and it pulls more than enough flavour along with it. Flint, meal, grapefruit and stone fruit with fig and cider-like characters. Plenty going on but contained and whole. Terrific length. Just enough razzle-dazzle. Excellent." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

If your order is placed before 12pm we’ll get it on the truck that day. Delivery times vary considerably with Australia Post and unfortunately there is no Express Delivery Option for wine (because it is fragile and heavy). PLEASE NOTE that we are currently seeing significant delays in the Australia Post delivery network. Strict government health and safety requirements and very high parcel volumes are causing significant backlogs at the main NSW and VIC sorting facilities. Orders are still arriving safe and sound but you may notice slower delivery times and less frequent scanning updates than usual.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 1300 668 385 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
