About The Wine

The iconic Eldridge Gamay is one of the great cult wines of the Mornington Peninsula. Vigneron David Lloyd's vision to plant Gamay on his stunning Estate more than 20 years ago has certainly paid dividends.

He makes only around 6 barrels of Gamay each year, in a terrific vintage the scramble for an allocation can reach fever pitch.

The 2016 is a very good vintage of this distinguished wine. A little plusher and darker than the previous release, a more robust version of Eldridge Gamay but a charming one none the less.

Hitting the heights of 94 points from The Wine Front's Gary Walsh, this is a benchmark wine for the variety in Australia.

About Eldridge Estate

When David and Wendy Lloyd purchased the picturesque Eldridge Estate on Red Hill in Mornington Peninsula in 1995, their mission was, "to produce hand crafted wines of distinction that are true to the grape variety and the flavours from our unique site."

It's fair to say that more than 20 years on, that dream has been fully realised. David runs the property with zero carbon footprint, continuously searching to optimise the effiency and quality of his wines.

A deep dive into the right clonal material for the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay on his small block has seen the wines of David Lloyd become respected as among the finest of Mornington Peninsula.

The Wine Front

"David Lloyd a leading exponent, and a pioneer of Gamay in this country. Could have been considered to have been tilting at windmills back in the day, but often a labour of love pays dividends, eventually. Now, the rest of Australia has caught up.Cherry, spice, a little dried herb and flower perfume, pencil oak in the background. Medium bodied, wonderful depth of flavour and supple texture, tannin is buried deep, but alive and kicking, cool acidity, fresher red fruits bob up on a long and pure finish. Wonderful." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Halliday Wine Companion

"David Lloyd has done more work with gamay than any other maker. The plantings are mature, and he invested this vintage with what I call glossy berry fruit (plus sweet spices)." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)
