It’s pretty clear by now that Dappled is an out-and-out star producer. One of the very best. The value is extraordinary but quality is the main take-home.

About the Wine
This has to be one of the most surprising and indeed remarkable white wines we've tried in recent times.
Upon crowning Dappled s his Best New Winery in his 2018 Wine Companion, James Halliday labelled owner/winemaker Shaun Crinion as one of those winemakers who "come around once in the metaphorical blue moon." Shaun does things his own way, no more so than with this stunning Gewurztraminer.
Gewurz can often be simple in its overt musky, fruity character, but coming from the ultra cool Macedon Ranges this has the acidity many Gewurz lack, with time on skims and the addition of 5% Pinot Noir adding a lovely pinky/orange colour and oodles of texture.
A sit-you-back-in-your-chair white/pink/amber wine from an extremely impressive producer. Extremely limited.
About Dappled Wines
Dappled owner/winemaker Shaun Crinion has a mountain of winemaking experience from around the globe, culminating with the establishment of a label all of his own.
Shaun's focus is on expressing the sub-regionality of the Yarra Valley through simply gorgeous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and a growing range of experimental wines.
With the combination of Shaun's A-grade fruit from the Yarra's top growers and his precise, astute winemaking, the value on offer in the Dappled range is second to none.
He was James Halliday's Best New Winery in 2018. The wines have only stepped in quality since then though the modest pricing remains the same. Unsurprisingly, his wines sell out in short order each year. He's now regarded as one of the best small-scale producers in the modern Yarra Valley.
