2016 Curly Flat Pinot Noir

Macedon Ranges, VIC

One of Victoria's most iconic Pinot Noirs. A great vineyard, a stalwart producer. Top of the tree in Aus Pinot Noir.

About The Wine

The Curly Flat Pinot Noir is a wine loved by many collectors of Australia's best Pinot Noirs.

It's a wine that routinely shows its best with a long sleep in the cellar. The combination of the legitimate cool climate of the Macedon Ranges combined with the specific terroir of the Curly Flat vineyard yields tightly wound Pinot Noir of elegance and finesse.

As Curly Flat states, "Curly Flat Pinot Noir represents our passion as winegrowers to faithfully capture the essence of our remarkable site coupled with the unique expression that is derived from each vintage."

It's one of the most recognisable labels in all Australian Pinot Noir, and one of the most celebrated too.

About Curly Flat

Curly Flat is one of the most iconic producers in the Macedon Ranges.

Established in 1991 by Phillip Moraghan & Jeni Kolkka, the vineyard was planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. Over their prestigious history, the name Curly Flat has become synonymous with quality.

These wines have become cornerstones of many Australian cellars. The Pinot Noir is polished and powerful, the Chardonnay curvaceous and decadent.

It's an old school but good school operation. With winemaker Matt Harrop now at the winemaking helm, Curly Flat is entering an exciting new phase in its history.

Critic Reviews

The Weekend Australian

"Five clones, 17% whole bunch, wild ferment, 27 days on skins; 20 months in French oak (32% new). Excellent hue and clarity. Glorious bouquet with a riot of spices, red fruits and forest notes; the palate has exceptional structure – the fruit/oak/tannin trilogy is perfect." - James Halliday (The Weekend Australian)

The Wine Front

"It’s a dry, measured, slightly savoury version of Curly Flat Pinot Noir. There’s volume and power to the mid palate but the characterisation is found moreso in the wine’s spicy, autumnal highlights – combined with trademark velvety texture. Undergrowth; a little. Oak; yes, but more texture than flavour. It’s a cerebral release; its best days are ahead of it." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
