About The Wine

The Best's Bin 0 Shiraz is an Australian icon.

This historic old vine Shiraz has been made at Best's for more than 100 years. It is incredibly age worthy and in the best years surprisingly approachable as a young wine.

The 2016 looks in rare form, a warmer vintage offering a plushness and silkiness in youth that makes this one of the more approachable releases in recent memory.

If you want to see Bin 0 in peak form, this will go down as one of the great collectable vintages of this wine. It will keep as long as you want it to.

About Best's Great Western

Best's Great Western is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the country.

Their iconic Nursery Block is home to some of the oldest clonal material for particular varieties that can be found anywhere in the world. Established in the late 1860s, this precious vineyard is envied by much of the wine growing world.

Their wines are consistently excellent: the Shiraz dark and powerful, the Rieslings full flavoured and impeccably balanced, and the rare releases of Old Vine Meunier and Thomson Family Shiraz are some of the most collectable red wines in the country.

The Thomson family, and the Best family before them, have given us one of the true treasures of the Australian wine scene.

The Real Review

"This is a majestic shiraz, powerful and dense, well-structured for ageing yet with amazingly complex detail and charm for such a youngster, with star anise, pepper and assorted spice aromas. It has great concentration and persistence. A top vintage of this famous wine." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

The Wine Front

"Quite lush and ripe fruited, shows sweet, rich berry fruit characters, suggestions of milk chocolate, pretty violet and ‘floral’ notes and comes with a sheen of sweet, nougat oak. There’s depth to the medium-to-full weight shiraz characters, a plushness and pillowy texture with smooth tannins and a puff of warmth through the finish. The generosity of the wine will appeal to many, and it holds its bolder feel well. A younger drinking Bin 0 too." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Halliday Wine Companion

"Vines planted 1868, 1966, '70 and '92, hand-picked and sorted, open-fermented with 25% whole bunches, matured for 17 months in French oak (20% new). There should be no doubt that this is absolutely of world quality. It ticks each and every box with its deep colour, evocative bouquet smelling of ‘old money' (in wine terms), a long and velvety palate, the finish simply wanting you to start the process over again." - James Halliday (Halliday wine Companion)
