About the Wine
The Alphonse Mellot Domaine Sancerre Le Demoiselle Rouge shows lovely bottle-aged characters of dried red fruit, earth, smoke and truffle. The acidity helps to keep everything fresh, while the tannins are fine and integrated, showing great balance throughout. The vineyard from which the grapes are sourced is organically and biodynamically grown, so the quality of the fruit is high, reflected in the final product.
While Sancerre is definitely more known for Sauvignon Blanc, its Pinot Noirs have also gained in notoriety, which accounts for around 22% of the production in the subregion. The Alphonse Mellot Domaine Sancerre Le Demoiselle Rouge is one of the estate's best wines, showing that not only Burgundy can produce great Pinot Noir in France.
