About The Wine

Gruner Veltliner is showing plenty of promise on the Apple Isle. Plantings are few and far between at the moment, but likely we will see more in the ground over the coming years thanks to tasty examples like this.

This offering from Stefano Lubiana comes with a little bottle age, the texture filling out in bottle, the deliciousness growing to breaking point.

It's only made in tiny amounts, almost all of this is sold through cellar door.

We managed to secure a little, check it out while you can!

About Stefano Lubiana

Steve and Monique Lubiana were pioneers of biodynamic farming in Tasmania.

Their gorgeous estate was the first to adopt the principals of biodynamics in 2008. Since then the quality of the Stefano Lubiana premium range has soared. The wines are immaculate: Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Sparklings all packed with flavour intensity and perfectly balanced.

As Mike Bennie observed, "Geez, there’s been some wind in the sail on their estate in southern Tasmania. This is top notch stuff right here."

Steve, a fifth-generation winemaker, is now one of Tasmania's leading producers, no doubt about it.

Additional Info

From The Producer

Vineyard blocks: 100% estate grown, hand-picked, single block.

Geology: Mix of grey gravelly loam over gravel and red loam over old riverbed.

Vineyard management: 100% certified biodynamic, hand-picked, then fruit is sorted by hand on our vibrating table.

Winemaking notes: After Steve’s vintage at Pittnauer in Austria in 2012, and seeing some exceptional examples of Grüner Veltliner, he had the crazy idea to graft some vines over to see how the variety would perform. Well, the wines have exceeded all expectations with Tasmania’s cool, mild climate seeming a perfect match for this aromatic and textural Austrian variety. It produces wines of lovely softness and balance but with aromatics more akin to German whites. Best of both worlds, really.

Wine notes: Inviting floral and citrus notes are displayed in a wine that is part Riesling and part Pinot Gris in texture & style.

Blend : Gruner Veltliner (100%)
