About The Wine

The Simão & Co. exploration of the North East in Victoria continues here with this very smart modern rendition of Nebbiolo.

The fruit is grown on an old flat river bed on the floor of the Alpine Valleys. The sandy, stony soils work well for this variety. The coolness of the region ideal for these late ripening varieties in a warmer vintage like 2015.

There was only a little over one 500L barrel produced by Simon in 2015. There's a juicy fruit ripeness alongside classic Nebbiolo floral lift and moreish tannins all in cahoots here. It's Australian Nebbiolo made to be consumed young or put down for a few years to mellow.

Top value here for those who want Nebbiolo they can drink right away.

About Simão & Co.

Simon Killeen is a seventh generation winemaker born and raised in the Rutherglen region.

His father and grandfather crafted some of the country's most legendary fortified wines, now Simon is taking up the mantle under his own label, Simão & Co.

Simão (Portuguese for Simon) is a nod to his love of traditional Portuguese fortifieds and his time spent making wine in the Douro.

Simon is deeply passionate about the wine and history of North-East Victoria. With a range that spreads from Beechworth to the King Valley and out to Glenrowan, he is making it his mission to spread the word on the unique wines from his home.

DDS review

Redcurrant, bitumen and a lift of Roses and Orange peel. the fruit is ripe and full but trim train tracks of tannin keep it synched in and a brittle acidity rings through the finish. Such a moreish glass of wine. Nebbiolo to be sure, but one you want to skol with abandon. Fun drinking and hits the Nebb spot nicely. - Different Drop Wine Team

Halliday Wine Companion

"Really approachable and working off its varietal theme with wonderful aromatics of rose hips, sweet-sour cherries and raspberries all leading onto a medium-bodied palate with savoury, grainy tannins and a terrific acid drive. All of the allure of nebbiolo is here; it's fresh, lively and a damn good drink." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)
