About The Wine
This is Pinot Gris made with the intention of highlighting the textural elements of this lovely variety.
Yoshi Sato makes this naturally with plenty of skin contact, some time in barrel and a good time on lees to round out the body of the wine and give you a little more flesh to hang onto.
If you want boring, insipid Pinot Gris - something that's just your classic BBQ smasher, you'll need to look elsewhere.
This is a premium example of Pinot Gris for those who want to exlpore the full range of the variety.
This is the eponymous label of former bank manager, Yoshiaki Sato, the first to venture into the realm of natural winemaking in the esteemed Central Otago region.
He comes with quite the winemaking pedigree, having worked at the Otago powerhouse Felton Road, the great Domaine Bizot in Burgundy and has drawn from the philosophies of Mike Mike Weering at Pyramid Valley in Canterbury.
The wines have an amazing energy about them. He and his wife Kyoko planted a vineyard at the base of Mt. Pisa which they farm organically. These wines have built up an almost feverish cult following and sell out quickly every year.
In Sato you can see natural wine entering the world of fine wine.
