About the Wine

Justin McNamee playing for a classically Spanish-inspired style of Graciano from his 2015 release.

McNamee looks to the old world for inspiration in all his wines, the Graciano walks that path well. It shows the vibrant acidity and food-friendliness that has made this such a popular wine style. It's firm with tannin but bright with fruit, a 'Joven' style and a tasty take on this wonderful Mediterranean variety.

Only available in tiny quantities.

About Samuel's Gorge

Samuel’s Gorge is one of McLaren Vale’s best-kept secrets. There, in his quiet neck of the woods, owner/winemaker Justin McNamee is on a mission to build “wines that are distinctly Australian with reference to the old world for texture, complexity and harmony.”

The Samuel's Gorge wines may be scarcely available but they are highly renowned. Shiraz and Grenache are considered his fortè, but he makes stellar examples of Tempranillo, Graciano, Gamay and more.  Justin works with some of McLaren Vale's top vineyards, preferring to entrust the region's top growers to do what they do best, while he concentrates on crafting the wines together and greeting customers at his much-loved cellar door.

These are wines with a distinct personality and a rustic feel, from an adored cult SA producer.

DDS review

Red fruit and cracked pepper, some citrus peel and an earthy, baked terracotta smell. Rhubarb and a touch of leafiness, it's bright and juicy with some taught, tight tannin. Screams prosciutto and olives and big glasses and sunshine. Delish. - Different Drop Wine Team

Additional Info

From the Producer

An ‘old world’ Spanish variety, Graciano is prized for its spiciness, acidity and tannin, and our 2015 delivers on all fronts. Lifted aromas of maple wood, baked rhubarb and sun dried tomato allure the senses. The surprisingly delicate palate is awash with bush pepper and vibrant acidity, finishing with fine, chalky tannins.

A joven style, this vintage will cellar for around 5 years and will pair beautifully with cured meat and cheese boards, and for a treat, try it with toasted crostini topped with baked fig, Manchego cheese and caramelised shallots.
