About The Wine

The Langhe Rosso is a terrific entry point into the revered Piemontese wines of Roagna.

This bottling combines exclusively Nebbiolo grapes picked from the younger vines on the two Cru vineyards farmed by Roagna - Pajè and Pira.

It's a perfect snapshot of vintage and gives you a glimpse at the classic stylings of these excellent wines. It's pure, unfettered Nebbiolo with more structure and intensity than the Langhe Rosso moniker would typically signal.

It's good now but excellent with time in bottle. In good vintages, this wine can continue to improve for well over a decade.

From The Producer

Pajè is one of the historic vineyards of Barbaresco and is located in the center of the vineyard area of the town. It is particularly rich in calcareous marl, with a high content of active limestone. It opens onto the valley of the Tanaro river, which mitigates cold winters and hot summers. It is a small strip of land facing South West. Pira is a historical mention of Castiglione Falletto, facing South East, on the side of Serralunga and Perno. This vineyard was born from the disintegration of the Rocche. It has very complex soils, consisting of limestone, gray and blue marls and sands. It is a geographical monopoly of our family since 1989, when it was bought.

For this wine, young plants up to 20-25 years of age are used. The vines are exclusively of mass origin , with woods obtained by pruning from the same vineyards. Harvesting is done manually in October, when perfectly ripe, in small boxes. Before being vinified, the grapes follow 2 manual selections to check the perfect integrity of the fruits.

Fermentation takes place exclusively in wooden vats , thanks to a pied de cuve of indigenous yeasts. It lasts for about ten days. The ancient maceration technique of submerged cap splint is then applied , which lasts at least 2 months (60 days). The wine ages in a neutral oak barrel for about five years.

The Wine Front

"Strawberry and raspberry, plenty of spice and perfume, some liquorice root and a camphor-like lift. Medium to full-bodied, fresh with a fine graphite feel to tannin and cool acidity, lovely energy and shape through the mouth – a wine that knows what it’s doing – then strawberry and cherry carry on a long finish laden with brick dust tannin. Terrific in 2015." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
