About The Wine
Dense, savoury Barolo with red and black fruit core and leathery tannins. But for all its power and longevity it has welcoming aromatics and a supple palate.
Villero is one of the great crus (vineyards) of Barolo, with several top wineries producing great single vineyard wines each year. This Oddero release sees thirty months in large old oak barrels then another year resting in bottle before hitting the market..
Don't be in a hurry to drink, as this will be at its best in 5-10 years or so, with plenty left in the tank after that.
About Oddero
Poderi e Cantine Oddero is a name which has roots in the Piemonte region back to the 18th century. A producer of great renown, the Oddero family has vineyard holdings in some of the great terroirs acrosss Langhe, Barolo and Barbaresco. The current patriarch of the family, Giacomo Oddero, handed over the running of the family business to his daughter, Mariacristina, in 1990 after a much-respected tenure as proprietor.
Now Mariacristina has handed over to her children, Isabella and Pietro, as the seventh generation takes the family business into the modern era, they are flourishing as a label that respects both traditional production and a more modern, sustainable approach to farming.
From the Producer
A strong and well-rounded wine, Barolo Villero reflects a soil richer in clay and limestone than that of Rocche di Castiglione, located in the same town. The bouquet offers intriguing and dense scents of violet, red fruits, cocoa and liquorice. The complex tannic texture displays a delicate sweet finish.

Critic Reviews
While I’m a bit of a Serralunga man at heart, I must confess to a love of so many crus located in Castiglione Falletto, and Villero is right at the top of the tree, alongside Monprivato and Rocche for me. No shortage of perfume and spice here, fennel tips and lavender, red fruit and dark berries, cocoa warmth. It’s tight and dense, but has what you might call ‘a masculine prettiness’, or maybe that’s just me. Tannin cleans the wine with a chamois-like intensity, though it’s ripe and good to roll around the mouth. Red fruits, new leather, spice and perfume trail on a very long finish. Do I have to order in dozens? No, please mix it up! You can order wines in any quantity and variation you like. You can order 1 bottle or 50. We challenge you to make the ultimate mixed pack of wine!
Are there volume discounts? No, our pricing is designed to be the best in market already - no marking up and then discounting down! For very large orders (weddings, etc) we are open to negotiating though. Just give us a call.
Do we price match? Yes, within reason. Everyday low & consistent pricing is something we strongly believe in. We want our customers to feel confident they are always getting the best price. If you see a price lower somewhere else let us know and we'll consider matching it. We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.
Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.
I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine. So for example, if the website will only allow you to add 3 bottles and no more, then that is all we have of that particular wine. The good news is we may be able to order more for you. Just contact us on 02 8376 8775 or hello@differentdrop.com and we'll organise the additional quantity for you.
Does Different Drop have a physical store? No. Just an a warehouse/office. We occasionally do events however, so sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram to stay in the loop.
Can I special order a wine you do not sell? If it’s doable, then we’ll make it happen. Just contact us directly via phone, chat or email and we’ll find out for you right away. Please note that in most cases special orders such as these will need to be in full case lots (6 or 12 bottles).
