About The Wine
2015 is a great vintage to look at Nebbiolo with some years under its a belt - a warm season with some tremendous power and raciness.
With Sandrone's Sibi et Paucis, 'the few and the favoured', cellaring program we are lucky to get an accelerated look at high-toned Nebbiolo such as this Valmaggiore expression from Roero.
It's wonderfully floral, still very primary, with bright cherry fruit and a powerful, layered palate with tobacco and rocky notes evolving.
Still many years of life ahead but boy it looks good now.
About Luciano Sandrone
Luciano Sandrone is the founding father of this famous Barolo producer and he is still powers on, even though he is now into his 80s. The domaine, started effectively in his garage in 1970s, remains all in the family.
They are based in the commune and town of Barolo itself, in the shadow of the famous hillside vineyard Cannubi Boschis, source of their most renowned wines.
They now boast 27 hectares of vines in Barolo, Langhe and Roero. Organic viticulture is key, as is elongated skin contact for Nebbiolo and natural yeast fermentation.
As well as historically brilliant Barolo, they also produce extremely high-quality Dolcetto and Barbera which may change the way you perceive those varieties.
