About The Wine

Rick Kinzbrunner has made good use of the Warner Vineyard in Beechworth over the years, carefully carving out powerful, cellar-worthy Shiraz from this impeccable Beechworth site.

The 2015 is a fine release of the Giaconda Warner Vineyard Shiraz. As has been the theme with its predecessors, it's a little wilder and more savoury than the Giaconda Estate Shiraz, the rugged personality of this iconic vineyard shining through.

Only made in limited quantities, this wine sells out quickly each year.

A wine of great character and presence, this is Beechworth Shiraz at its most captivating.

About Giaconda

There are few names in Australian wine as revered as those of Giaconda and its founder/owner/winemaker, Rick Kinzbrunner.

Since 1982, Rick has dedicated himself to the pursuit of vinous excellence in the Beechworth region.

They are most known for their incredibly powerful Chardonnay, with Shiraz and Nebbiolo not far behind. Kinzbrunner's signature style is a rare combination of power and finesse.

For the Estate wines, production is extremely limited and they generally sell out upon release.

Giaconda is a special producer that thoroughly deserves its reputation as one of the country's finest domains.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"Compelling and remarkably perfumed, here is the dance of seven veils. Feminine and highly aromatic on first impression. As each layer is peeled away, the definitive elements of Shiraz are slowly revealed. Aromatic notes of briar, rose petals and violets dampened by the earthy morning dew, give way to earth, wood spice, black pepper, aniseed, graphite, clove and cinnamon. The palate is lively and spicy with red to black fruits, crunchy acid backed by a frame of fine powdery tannin. Gloriously long and harmonious: with oak totally submissive to the dominant fruit. Wild and racy. Warner Vineyard at its best." - Rick Kinzbruner, owner/winemaker

Additional Info

From The Producer

Wine making should be subtle and always seek balance - this should never seek to dominate the Terroir or characteristics of any given vintage. Giaconda wines are hand-crafted according to basically a natural wine making process. To us this means indigenous yeasts are employed for fermentation, natural bacteria for Malolactic fermentation, French oak barrel ageing, minimal sulphur additions, and no filtration before bottling.

The winery, barrel maturation cave and bottling facility are all set up for gravity flow. This means the wines are very rarely pumped or manipulated mechanically. Instead they are gently moved by gravity or gas pressure during the entire wine making process.

For the red wines, a combination of whole bunch and de-stemmed crushed fruit is transferred to large concrete tanks for fermentation. These wines remain on skins for an extended period to develop softer, finer tannins and more complexity; before being basket pressed and transferred to French oak barrels (up to 40% new in some cases) for ageing.
