About The Wine

Sourced from 20-year-old vines in one corner of the Merricks vineyard, this is the most distinctive and intense of the Garagiste Pinot Noirs.

The Terre De Feu is a special 'reserve' that sits above his stunning single vineyard wines.

This was made with 100% whole bunches, one barrel brand new and one seasoned, and as with all the other Garagiste wines, is completely unfined and unfiltered. Every drop of nuance from the vineyard preserved in the bottle. Stunning stuff.

There were only 700 bottles made of this landmark wine for Barney Flanders and Garagiste. With 97 points from James Halliday and 95 points from Gary Walsh, this is one of Barney's finest Pinot Noirs to date.

About Garagiste

Garagiste is the brainchild of Barnaby Flanders. After leaving Allied Wines in 2003 he embarked on a mission to produce small batch premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under his own label in his beloved Mornington Peninsula.

Barney loves the sub-regionality to be exploited in Mornington Peninsula, the slight alterations in aspect and soil profile within this small wine producing region provide him with the scaffolding around which he builds his stunning harem of small batch wines.

They are only ever made in small quantities so time is of the essence if you want to explore the world of Garagiste.

Halliday Wine Companion

"The great news - this is a stunning wine. The bad news - 60 dozen made. Fruit off the Merricks Grove vineyard, 100% whole bunches, wild ferment, light foot treading, aged 10 months in French oak hogsheads, 50% new. Unfined/unfiltered. Utterly compelling and highly delicious. Earthy, rhubarb and beetroot fragrance with star anise, cinnamon quills and Tuscan prosciutto lead to black cherries and pips with blood orange. On the full-bodied palate the tannins hold sway - ripe, smoky and powerful with refreshing acidity to close." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

95Points
The Wine Front

"A riot of whole bunch spice and dried herb perfume, rhubarb, poached strawberries, dark cherry, Campari, vanilla etc. etc. – it does not want for complexity. Medium bodied, very firm and dusty, scrunchy tannin, intense flavour, spice and amaro, blood orange acidity, stalks and wheatgrass, big punch of graphite tannin through a long finish, but enveloped in sweet and sour cherry. In terms of Pinot Noir, it’s the Big Show. This one goes to eleven. All that. The ‘Land of Fire’ is a great name for such a wine." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
