About The Wine

The iconic Eldridge Estate, spearheaded by David Lloyd, is one of the jewels in the crown of Mornington Peninsula.

Every berry that goes into this glorious Chardonnay is picked from their home estate. The fruit is treated with the utmost respect; pressed gently, fermented in the best French oak with a small amount of solids.

There's great intensity here. It's a Chardonnay with explosive power derived from the rich Mornington soil. It makes a statement about its home and its maker. It's a great thing to drink.

With 94 points from James Halliday and Campbell Mattinson , this is a great buy for those who want to get to know this great family owned estate.

About Eldridge Estate

When David and Wendy Lloyd purchased the picturesque Eldridge Estate on Red Hill in Mornington Peninsula in 1995, their mission was, "to produce hand crafted wines of distinction that are true to the grape variety and the flavours from our unique site."

It's fair to say that more than 20 years on, that dream has been fully realised. David runs the property with zero carbon footprint, continuously searching to optimise efficiency and the quality of his wines.

A deep dive into the right clonal material for the Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gamay on his small block has seen the wines of David Lloyd become respected as among the finest of Mornington Peninsula.

From The Producer

5-clone blend. Aromas of melon and citrus with a little nuttiness. On the palate the wine has a creamy, supple texture that complements the citrus/ hazelnut flavours.

Food match: Freshly shucked oysters or seafood risotto.

The grapes were whole bunch pressed using a gentle air bag press with carbon dioxide cover to retain the varietal fruit character. The juice was fermented in 30% new French Oak with some solids before being moved to 30% new oak for a further 9 months.

Blend : Chardonnay (100%)
ABV : 13.00%
Closure : Screw cap

Critic Reviews

94Points
Halliday Wine Companion

"Five clones, including Dijon selections, are whole bunch-pressed and fermented in French oak. Has freshness and brightness, modulated chardonnay fruit in control from start to finish." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

94Points
The Wine Front

"Nervy white with attitude. Seriously flinty and vanillin. Serious presence. Not a big wine but it takes you by the scruff of the neck from the outset. Grapefruit, sweet toast, bran, nougat and spent matches. Peach and citrus. Wood smoke. Damn good wine. Length to burn too." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
