About
Here’s a winemaker who understands Nebbiolo.

About The Wine

Peter Graham's Nebbiolo is a labour of love. He crafts it in a traditional way.

The fruit is gently handled from picking to the long, slow ferment. The two large format oak casks, his pride and joy, are filled by gravity. The juice is left to sleep for a few years prior to release. This is Nebbiolo with power and concentration.

The 2015 is a powerhouse release. This is set to be one of the benchmark Nebbiolo releases in Australia this year with a huge 95 points from Gary Walsh at The Wine Front. For enthusiasts of variety, this wine is selling fast.

Do yourself a favour and get some in the cellar while you still can.

About Domenica

Peter Graham is one of Beechworth's most thoughtful and talented winemakers. From his small plot of land on the Beechworth "Golden Mile", Pete crafts articulate and powerful wines with a gentle hand.

He farms his vineyard organically, though uncertified, with great care. The quality of fruit it yields is first class. In the winery, everything is moved via gravity. Patience is a virtue that Pete definitely possesses. No wine is released until it's 'ready'.

The Nebbiolo is one of the country's benchmarks. The Chardonnay is always in high demand given Pete's history as assistant winemaker at Giaconda. The Shiraz is the very model of modern Australian Shiraz; a wine with both power and refinement.

As Mike Bennie once noted:"If you’re into the new wave of truefine wine producers of Australia you should be onto, should get onto, Domenica. Classics in the making. Rising high."

Additional Info

From The Producer

The single acre of nebbiolo is grown in a cool, protected southerly pocket on the corner of shale at the southern end off the property. This soil holds more water than the granite, allowing the typically large canopy to maintain its integrity throughout the summer, usually without supplementary irrigation. Tiny yields of three or four bunches per vine develop the intensity of fruit required to make nebbiolo with beautiful structure, and a deep complex core of ripe fruit.

The fruit is crushed and destemmed, and fermented in concrete, for between three and six weeks, dependant on the wine and the season. Maturation is in a traditional wooden botti of 1600 litres capacity. A long maturation between two and three years is required to allow the tannin to soften, and the intense, bright fruit to deepen, and allow some of the secondary, more subtle aromas and flavours to shine through.

DDS review

A clenched fist of a Nebbiolo. Ripped with tannin. Dark cherry and boot polish, autumn leaves, licorice. It's a beautiful, classic nose. Nebbiolo to the core. Purity of fruit is excellent. Those tannins ride long and drive hard. What a wine. First rate Australian Nebbiolo. Awesome. - Different Drop Wine Team

"A first crack at a Nebbiolo from this producer for me. Hopefully, I come to it well prepared. And after tasting it, just now, I can say “Here’s a winemaker who understands Nebbiolo”.Dark cherry, dried roses and a subtle mint/gum leaf fragrance, brown spices and earth. Full-bodied, yet has finesse, a controlled power, with sheets of rusty tannin and black tea pucker, savoury and full of fruit, an ironstone feel, dry and very long, all that spice and sweet tannin running long on the finish. What a wonderful expression of Nebbiolo. I’ve had nothing to do with this wine, and yet I feel curiously proud that we’re making something this good in Australia. It took me about a minute to form an opinion on it; it’s just so convincing." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
