About The Wine

The Denton vineyard is unusual in the Yarra Valley. The hulking granite boulders just under the surface of the vineyard are unique for the region.

Luke Lambert believes the Denton View Hill vineyard has the potential to make one of the country's best Nebbiolos. The combination of the aspect of the vineyard, the lean granitic soils and the long hang time in the Yarra Valley all adding up to huge potential. The fruit from the site is split 50/50 between Luke Lambert's own label and the Denton View Hill label.

The major difference being Luke's use of very large format oak for his, as opposed to the 29-year-old 500L puncheons used for Denton. It's a wine for the Nebbiolo lovers.

Mostly classically styled but with a hint of new world influence.

About Denton View Hill

Denton View Hill was founded by John Denton, one of Australia’s most celebrated architects.

This is a unique site in the Yarra Valley littered with huge granite boulders making it particularly suited to growing exceptional Nebbiolo in particular.

The wines are currently made by the skilled hands of Luke Lambert, one of the Yarra Valley's finest younger generation winemakers.

The wines are powerful and bold in the context of Yarra Valley wine. A great winemaker and a great site working in total lockstep yielding excellent results.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

The cherries, the coal, the nip of licorice, and yes, with some air, the roses in bloom. The tannins are firm but well meshed to the fruit. It's long a sweetly fruited but transitions to savoury through the finish with the signature Nebbiolo pucker. Really needs a big decant to really strut its stuff. Luke sure knows how to make this variety sing. - Different Drop Wine Team

Additional Info

From The Producer

Viticulture
Site: Denton Vineyard – Yarra Valley
Soil type: Granite
Aspect: North-West

The Nebbiolo block sits half way up the north western slope, catching all available sunshine hours. The granitic sand over granite boulders and long, slow growing season provide a very special and unique terroir.

This unique micro-climate and soil profile contribute lots of bright, fresh red fruit, red flower perfume, and fine tannin on an acid frame.

Winemaking
Destemmed, wild yeast fermented and held on skins for 20 days with frequent plunging and foot stomping. No temperature control. Pressed to 500 litre french oak puncheons (20% new) and left unsulfured for 18 months prior to bottling without fining or filtration.

Vintage 2015
An excellent growing season. A long mild summer with low disease pressure and reliable rainfall at the right time. Harvest was later than average and the fruit was in near perfect condition with very good acidity and tannin levels.

Blend : Nebbiolo (100%)
Closure : DIAM Cork
Bottle Size : 750ml
