About

About The Wine

It seemed only a matter of time before Jo Marsh would produce a Nebbiolo.

Her love for the Italian variety and her love for the Alpine Valleys converge in this 2015 release. A small vineyard planted on an old river bed supplied the fruit. The fruit spent a lazy six months on skins before bedding down in oak. Only two barrels were made. One old, one older.

This is a lovely, approachable, mid-weight Nebbiolo. It's a welcoming style of the variety. A gate-way Nebbiolo for those looking to explore the variety.

If you are familiar with Jo's wines, you know she rarely puts a foot wrong. This is no different. It's Nebbiolo the Jo Marsh way, ready to be enjoyed and varietally right on the money.

About Billy Button

Billy Button is the charming Alpine Valleys based project of experienced winemaker Jo Marsh.

Jo focuses primarily on producing small batches of alternative varieties from good local growers in her patch of Victoria. She explores varieties that are rarely seen in the Australian landscape - you can find anything from Schioppettino to Verduzzo in her eclectic range.

Her gentle touch in the winery makes for beautifully balanced wines that show great texture and vibrancy.

The Billy Button range is a little gem of North East Victoria. It's one of the more unique wine ranges in the country.

The Wine Front

"Squeaky clean and rustic at once. The latter comes thanks to the variety. Rust, leather, anise, dark cherries, meat and woodspice notes all make contributions here. Orange-like inflections too. Lots of tannin, ripe, impactful. It slowly unfurls as it rests in the glass. A keen anise character builds with air. Very nicely done. " - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

From The Producer

Nebbiolo. The ultimate challenge when it comes to Italian varieties. And Jo loves a challenge! Originating from the Piedmont region of Northern Italy, Nebbiolo (in the form of Barbaresco and Barolo) is the ultimate Italian wine and the best examples are absolutely glorious to drink. A very tannic variety that requires deft handling to produce a balanced wine.
