About the Wine

Spinifex is one of the Barossa's leading producers, with seamless Rhone-inspired 'GSM' blends like the Esprit being one of their signature styles.

As always this comes from some seriously old Barossa vineyards - up to 150 years of age - but the 2014 Esprit is heavier on the Grenache component than in previous years, with the quality of the Grenache fruit demanding front and centre stage. As Pete says, "The 2014 has a real prettiness to it, it's a different beast to the more savoury 2013. It's one of my favourite vintages of Esprit to date." 

This, as with all Spinifex's wines, is balanced to perfection - fresh and energetic but with a truly Barossan backbone. If you love Grenache blends, value-wise the Esprit is as good as you will find in the region.

About Spinifex

Spinifex is one of the undercover jewels of the Barossa Valley, and very much a pioneer of the changing direction of this famous region.

Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals. Pete’s wines brought a new sensibility to the region; they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso.

There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.  These are brilliant Barossa wines.

"From vines ranging from 75 to 150 years old, this is a fine and fresh blend of grenache, mataro and cinsault. E’er reliable sort of wine for those seeking medium weight, interesting, easy-drinking Barossa red vibes. Some nice tension in this release. There’s good energy to this wine, a kind of tautness, a lean and yet muscly sort of thing. Scents are wonderful with a mesh of lavender, pepper, briar, bergamot tea and a range of black berry and cherry fruitiness. The palate is pristine, lively, set around mulberry and tart cherry fruit characters, branded with spice, more black tea and a suggestion of herbs. Acidity is a touch peaky, but forgiven in generous supple gulps of this comely stuff. It’s another solid release, if not quite to year-on-year standard." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

From the Producer

Sourced from old vineyards on the northern, western and eastern edges of the Barossa Valley and from Moculta and Springton in Eden Valley. Vine ages range from 75 to over 150 years, all are dry grown. All vineyards are hand harvested, whole bunch inclusion averaged 45 % and macerations varied from between 8-18 days. Elevage was undertaken on light lees in seasoned demi-muid, foudres and stainless steel. Bottled without filtration.

We ship primarily with Australia Post. Their fast, easy and reliable delivery is completely FREE for any orders of $150 or more, or just $9 for any orders of $149 or less. There is no minimum order quantity and you can mix and match as much as you like.

The vast majority of orders are dispatched from our Sydney warehouse on the same or next business day. Estimated delivery time frames can be viewed here. Please include Authority to Leave instructions in the ‘SPECIAL REQUESTS’ box during checkout if you may not be available to sign for your delivery and would like it left at your front door.
