About The Wine
This is a wine very close to Simon Killeen's heart, and you can see the fire in his eyes when he talks about it. To give some context, I'll quote Campbell Mattinson, "Simon’s late father, Chris Killeen, was renowned as an experimenter, a champion of Portuguese varieties in Australia, and as the producer of Australia’s best and most interesting Vintage Port. He died far too young."
The torch has been taken up by Simon. His VP is a bit of a game changer. Made in a traditional method from six different varieties; Shiraz, Tempranillo, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Barocca, Touriga Nacional and Durif, this is intentionally a drier and more refreshing style of fortified.
This will cellar beautifully but is as good as anything we've tried as a young wine of this style. Simon wants this wine to challenge the big boys of Australian fortified wines, and you know what, he's on to something.
About Simão & Co.
Simon Killeen is a seventh generation winemaker born and raised in the Rutherglen region.
His father and grandfather crafted some of the country's most legendary fortified wines, now Simon is taking up the mantle under his own label, Simão & Co.
Simão (Portuguese for Simon) is a nod to his love of traditional Portuguese fortifieds and his time spent making wine in the Douro.
Simon is deeply passionate about the wine and history of North-East Victoria. With a range that spreads from Beechworth to the King Valley and out to Glenrowan, he is making it his mission to spread the word on the unique wines from his home.
