About The Wine

The Ridge of Tears wines are Peter Logan's homage to his late ancestors. Two Shiraz' from two different NSW regions showcasing the differences between the vineyards where they are grown.

These wines receive the most attention and care in the winery from Peter and his team. They are powerful and savoury. They are treated to the best oak.

The Orange wine is the more medium-bodied, cool-climate influenced of the two. The quality here is excellent. Indeed, in his review of the 2014 vintage of this wine Campbell Mattinson noted "Excellence lives here."

It's a fitting wine to honour his forefathers, one that will thrill the Shiraz enthusiast who is intrigued by the differences that site has on a finished wine.

About Logan Wines

Logan wines have been a source of excellent value NSW wines for many years.

The label began in 1997 as a partnership between Peter Logan and his father Mal. The wines were an immediate hit with the locals.

Today, owner/winemaker Peter Logan delivers quality at all price points. His wines are clean and bright and made with a strong sense of regionality.

These are good, honest wines that consistently overdeliver for the price.

From The Producer

The face on the label personifies Peter Logan’s great ancestors. 'Druim nan deur' is Scottish Gaelic for 'Ridge of Tears', the old Logan clan war cry. It's an apt name for a wine that has aged this winemaker. Ridge of Tears showcases two shiraz wines from Mudgee and Orange.

The range demonstrates the great quality of these regions, especially in shiraz, showing how good they can be and just how different they are. But it hasn't been easy. In order to make the best possible shiraz from each region we grow the grapes on the best sloping sites, we restrict the vines to low yields in order to achieve perfect balance and concentration, we ferment the small batch of grapes in open fermenter tanks which we plunge by hand and then basket press before mellowing in oak for 12 - 15 months.

In the end the wines are savoury with depth and intensity. The two wines are really quite different yet both are perfumed and retain an elegance in line with the Logan house style. And now they're bottled, the tears are happy ones. Let the ageing begin.

The Wine Front

"It’s good. The swing of roasted nut flavour. The drive of fresh acidity. The bed of black cherried/boysenberried fruit. Herb and spice notes promote a savoury impression; the fruit itself has a coolness. And yet it’s ripe. And fleshy. With fine fingers of tannin, and juicily refreshing length. Excellence lives here." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
