About the Wine
Owen Latta is making some supremely interesting wines from his home in Ballarat. Sourcing and growing good fruit, expanding his winemaking mind with experimentation and patience.
This is naturally fermented Sauvignon Blanc from a cool vineyard in Macedon Ranges. It spent 18 months on lees quietly picking up body and complexity before being bottled without fining or filtering. It's a unique expression of the variety, at once tactile and delicious.
A complex and compelling Sauvignon Blanc that took time to come into being. Owen is on to something here.
About Latta / Eastern Peake
Is anyone working as hard as Owen Latta to put Ballarat in the mix of Australia's foremost wine regions? At only 15 years old he completed his first vintage at Eastern Peake alongside his father and has since taken on the full-time running of the business.
Owen is the man primarily responsible for both the Eastern Peake and Latta wines, the former of which being dedicated to premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Eastern Peake vineyard, and the latter being Owen's personal project all about innovation from a range of excellent central Victorian vineyards.
The wines are all gently brought to life with very astute yet hands-off winemaking, and Owen's low and zero sulphur wines are some of the best examples in the country. These are thrilling, absolutely unique Victorian wines, and quite simply Own Latta is one of Australia's finest young winemakers.
