About The Wine
Elise and Emeric Foleat at Vignerons Les Mathenys are devotees of the legendary Jacques Puffeney, Emeric having worked alongside him for eight years.
This rare Vin Jaune, with many years under its yeast veil, is unashamedly Puffeneyan... massively powerful, saline and rich, with a long, long life ahead..
About Vignernos Les Mathenys
After having spent eight years working for Jacques Puffeney before going out on his own, Emeric Foléat and his partner Elise began Les Matheny. Both natives of Jura, they named their estate after their tiny home village of Matheny.
Today, their holdings encompass three and a half hectares of vines spread across Arbois, Montigny-les-Arsures, and Poligny.
Having converted an old, rustic farmhouse into their winery, they work without the aids of modern technology. There is no recipe or format, rather each year, and vintage, dictates the nature of their winemaking style. A cask or two might be kept under voile for an extra-long time if the underlying material proves worthy. Topping up barrels may occur occasionally, based solely on taste and instinct.
