About The Wine

For Pinot lovers across the country, the quest to find affordable, interesting Pinot Noir that makes you blush like only Pinot can, is a constant one.

One of the heroes of this much sought after style is undoubtedly the Hoddles Creek Estate Pinot Noir. Made by Yarra Valley maestro Franco D'Anna, this is pure Pinot Noir to its core. It's earthy, lifted, vibrant and just ludicrously drinkable.

The 2017 is perhaps the most hotly anticipated release in this wine's already impressive past. There's a very good argument to be made that this Australia's best Pinot Noir under $25. How the D'Annas produce this quality at the price remains a mystery but they do it year in, year out.

This is one of their best. Back up the truck.

About Hoddles Creek Estate

Hoddles Creek lay a serious claim to being one of the best value producers in Australia.

Led by the extremely hardworking winemaking guru Franco D’Anna, the Hoddles team craft wonderful Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in particular that seriously overdeliver at all price-points.

The wines are all made from fruit grown on their family vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley.

A must try for Yarra Valley fans and bargain hunters alike!

Critic Reviews

DDS review

Absolutely picture perfect. Red cherry and florals, fine, ripe tannins melded beautifully with the fruit. It's long, slender and impeccably balanced. A flood of forest berries and an earthy underbelly of mushroom and sweet clove. Sensational drinking. Smokes a lot of $40 Pinot in sheer drinkability, sure, but in detail and complexity too. Unreal. - Different Drop Wine Team

"Fine, fragrant and deft Pinot Noir here, and all for just a tick over a lobster. Raspberry, cherry, a subtle earth and pencil thing, spice and vanilla. Medium-bodied, beautiful weight and precision, the delivery of flavour comes with a quiet confidence, fine graphite tannin, clear acidity, and satisfying length. Complete and sophisticated, yet still so young. Go on." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Additional Info

From The Producer

All fruit is hand-picked in the morning and immediately de-stemmed with no crushing. In tank the fruit will have a small addition of sulphur. Some batches were left to cold soak for approximately 4-5 days, whilst others started fermentation immediately.

Natural and cultured yeasts were used on different ferments. Pigage and delastage were used for cap management. Some ferments will undergo post maceration, depending on the tannin structure and the style of the wine.

On completion of fermentation the wine was gently pressed and transferred to 30% new, 30% one year old and the balance in two and three year old oak, After 11 months of barrel maturation, the wine was assembled and bottled without filtration or fining.
