About The Wine

The Ravensworth Shiraz Viognier has become one of the most sought after wines in Canberra, owner/winemaker Bryan Martin now consistently producing a wine of glorious complexity from his home grown fruit.

Bryan's Shiraz is Northern Rhone Valley inspired, with a splash of co-fermented Viognier adding perfume and mouthfeel to what is a remarkable Shiraz. Given Bryan Martin's day-job as assistant winemaker at Clonakilla where he, alongside Tim Kirk, produces Australia's foremost Shiraz Viognier, it comes as no surprise to see this wine reach such great heights.

The 2017 looks sensational once again. It's been two years since the release of this wine. The extra time in bottle and barrel revealing a wine more approachable and tantalising than ever before. If you fancy your cool climate Shiraz then this is simply a must for your cellar and/or dinner table. Exceptional value.

About Ravensworth

Bryan Martin is a winemaker at the height of his powers. Setting aside the exceptional work he is doing behind the scenes at regional flagbearer, Clonakilla, his Ravensworth wines have become some of the Canberra region’s hottest releases.

Bryan’s winemaking style is equal parts science and artistic flair. He’s an adventurous spirit trapped in the body of a technical virtuoso. A concert pianist jamming to free jazz. It’s a killer combination.

His range is full of alternative varieties and whacky blends, with texture and balance the key in everything. These are unique wines from a region on the up and up and now some of Canberra’s most sought-after wines.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"Darker and a deeper concentration with a spice driven aroma, less floral than the 2015 but still very fragrant with those exotic herbs and red fruit flavours. I really like the palate here, so silky and smooth and it builds all the time. This will definitely cellar well for around the 10 year mark but onwards if you like them old and crusty." - Bryan Martin, owner/winemaker

The Wine Front

"This is a beauty, but then again, the recent history of this wine speaks for itself. It’s a highly perfumed release, indeed, a striking feature is just how much scent comes off a glass, all pretty, floral, rose hip tea and red cherry, that blueberry thing Canberra does, fennel and brambles in the mix. The palate is satiny, long, sleek, slightly puckering as it luxuriates in its lingering sweet-spicy finish. It’s one for those who like understated yet elegant shiraz expressions, and something to approach in youth too. Beautiful." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
