About The Wine

The Gembrook Hill Pinot Noir is a beautiful thing to drink.

It's impeccable Pinot Noir from this region. Yarra Valley Pinot Noir in a tailored suit, slicked hair, and polished shoes. It's as sleek and stylish as you could ask for. This special site in the Upper Yarra has yielded some of the region's best Pinot Noirs over the last decade or more.

The 2017 release is one of the most anticipated vintages in recent memory and it doesn't disappoint.

Winemaker Andrew Marks knocking this one out of the park, once again.

About Gembrook Hill

Based in the cool upper reaches of the Yarra Valley, Gembrook Hill is one of the country's most loved producers of Pinot Noir.

Founded in 1983 by Ian and June Marks, Gembrook is one of the most picturesque vineyards in the region. As well as their stunning Pinot Noirs, they produce excellent examples of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and an elegant Blanc de Blanc in certain vintages.

Ian Marks sadly passed away in 2017. His son Andrew now tends the family vineyard and makes the wines, continuing the family legacy for producing outstanding examples of Upper Yarra wine.

From The Producer

After the earliest vintage on record at Gembrook in 2016 due to extreme heat in December and January, spring preceding the 2017 vintage was cool and wet in the Yarra Valley. This delayed budburst and flowering, resulting in a later harvest.

However summer brought beautiful even, warm temperatures with cool nights; perfect weather for a long ripening season for our grapes. Happily, Vintage 2017 will produce wines in the tradition of excellent quality expected from Gembrook Hill.

The Wine Front

"When maybe I’ll have a glass turns into maybe I’ll polish off the bottle. What I love about this release is the ease at which it paints a complex picture. It hardly seems to be trying and yet graphite, undergrowth, wild flings of herbs, walnut and black cherry flavours march forward. Tannin runs slick and dry, acidity drives through it, flavour is never left behind. It’s a filigreed wine, savoury and autumnal, yet all-the-while it feels composed and complete. Pitch. It’s a wine of perfect pitch." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Halliday Wine Companion

”Like its I.J.M. sibling, and indeed all of the pinots produced by Gembrook Hill over the years, this is a wine of exquisite purity that has instant appeal for those who understand pinot noir, whether from Australia or Burgundy. It's ready now, and the changes of age will be slow and beneficial for 10 years or more.” - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)

delivers on promise

In an age of ever diminishing discretionary spend, when I pay a little bit extra for a wine, I'm always a bit hesitant that it will deliver on what the asking price has promised.....believe me this over delivers in both complexity and sophistication by a wide margin to the point I'd consider it exceptional value.

A classic Yarra Valley Pinot. Love the berry flavours and smoothness of this beautiful wine. A special occasion wine for me. Highly recommended.
