About The Wine

The Polish Hill River Riesling comes from a single block in the Polish Hill sub-region of the Clare Valley.

John Hughes thinks this vineyard produces the best fruit of all his vineyard sources.

There's an extra level of intensity here. That classic iron bar of acidity as a spine, the chalky crunch of a green apple, wonderful perfume and glorious purity.

This sits comfortably alongside the best wines from this famous sub-region of the Clare.

About Rieslingfreak

A producer with a single-minded varietal focus is a rarity in Australian wine, John Hughes is one of those rarities.

John was born on an old Riesling vineyard in his home of the Clare Valley. To this day he produces some of South Australia's most articulate expressions of Riesling as his sole winemaking mission.

The wines show exquisite purity and elegance and sit comfortably among the best examples that South Australia has to offer.

The Real Review

"Pale colour; dusty, stony, smoky struck-flint aromas, background tropical flowers as well. The wine is tremendously fresh and zesty on the tongue with sherbety acidity, the acid chiming in with a salty mineral thing that sustains interest right through the long finish. Fascinating wine; big future." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

The Wine Advocate

"Now this is very good. We know that 2022 in the Clare Valley was a great year for Riesling. Time will tell if it is better than the great 2021 vintage, but my money is on it. Here, in this 2022 No. 2 from Polish Hill River, we witness all the coiled power and citrus fruit musculature of the season on full display, with citrus blossom, apple purée, star anise/fennel seed, cinnamon stick, lavender, Nashi pear and even kiwi fruit. At this point, it's still very closed but is a sensational representation of the year and the area. This is nowhere near fully extended. Patience, padawan." - Erin Larkin (Robert Parker Wine Advocate)

We'll even retrospectively issue you store credit if you have already purchased from us but you see a lower price somewhere later on. Our price match policy can be seen here.

Can coupons and discounts be stacked? No, only one discount or coupon can be applied to an order at once.

I am trying to add more of a wine to my cart but it won’t let me? This means we are running low on stock of that wine.
