About The Wine

While Spinifex has certainly amassed a formidable reputation for producing some of the country's leading examples of Rhone-inspired reds and whites, Peter Schell is no slouch with when it comes to knocking out a top-notch example of an emerging variety either.

This is a single vineyard Tempranillo from the foothills of the Barossa Valley. It's picked early, destemmed, fermented wild and bottled without fining or filtration. This release from the Spinifex duo is as you might expect, a combination of just the right amount of precision and drinkability.

With this release, Pete is searching for freshness and varietal character - he's nailed it.

A great addition to the Spinifex range and yet another feather in Pete's very feathery cap.

About Spinifex

Spinifex is one of the undercover jewels of the Barossa Valley, and very much a pioneer of the changing direction of this famous region.

Husband and wife team Peter Schell & Magali Gely have extensive experience in southern France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals.

Pete’s wines brought a new sensibility to the region; they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso.

There are few wineries who deliver refinement and poise from the Barossa Valley like Spinifex.  These are brilliant Barossa wines.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

Fine structure, freshness and vitality, here. Acidity on point, savoury tannins build through the wine. Raspberry, plums and strings of dried herb on the nose. Tightly wound up and focused but not overly serious. Fresh bitter finish is a lovely note to leave you with. Very tidy wine which feels precise yet easy to enjoy. - Different Drop Wine Team

Handpicked early in this warmer season to keep freshness, the fruit was destemmed prior to fermentation with indigenous yeasts in a small open fermenter.

Pressed after eight days, the young wine was allowed to mature on its lees for six months in old French oak puncheons (500-litre) prior to racking and bottling.
