Description

Steve Pannell may be better known for his 'alternative' variety wines, but this is just pure McLaren Vale Shiraz goodness, without the interruption of heavy-handed oak.

It's not quirky or innovative, but it's impeccably put together and sure is delicious. As ever excellent tannins ride shotgun to joyously juicy and sweet Shiraz fruit, providing the perfect balance and an extremely more-ish finish!

At this price, this is easily one of the best value Shiraz from the Vale.

Fresh, vibrant aromas and flavours that dance across the palate.

I love this wine and I love drinking it. It's been stripped back from the artifice of winemaking to express the purity and breadth of McLaren Vale Shiraz.

Region: McLaren Vale, SA
Blend: Shiraz (100%)
ABV: 14%
Closure: 750ml
Bottle Size:
Production:

95 Points - "Lots of blackberry, tar and asphalt aromas with some black pepper, too. Medium to full body with creamy tannins and lots of spices and white pepper underneath the dark fruits. Drink or hold." - JamesSuckling.com

93 Points - "Very deep, dense red-purple colour, intense spices and dark fruits to sniff, the palate punchy and broad, full across the tongue, and grainy tannins invade the entire palate. Quite powerful, emphatic flavour and structure: a serious shiraz which doesn't stint on tannin and allows the fruit character to shine." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

92 Points - "Blackberry and raspberry, seaweed and baking spices. It's medium-bodied, spicy dark fruit, a little tar, a saline edge, smooth flow of firm cocoa tannin, fleshy but fresh, with a firm finish of excellent length. Nicely done and very at ease with itself." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

    A great midweek lockdown wine

Perfect with the lamb tagine and couscous last night, drinking so well at the moment, we started it as an aperitif with olives and anchovy toast, its a winner, buy it while you can still get it!

    Delicious all rounder

Gosh he’s a good winemaker! The entire range is special, and this entry level everyday quaffer is as good as you’d want any night of the week. Rich, full, medium bodied and juicy, it’s Aussie Shiraz at its very best.

S.C. Pannell

Quite simply, Stephen Pannell is one of Australia’s finest and most imaginative winemakers. He’s a Jimmy Watson Trophy winner, a McLaren Vale Bushing King winner, a two-time Max Schubert Trophy winner, International Red Winemaker of the Year and Decanter Magazine’s 50 Most Influential Contributors to the World of Wine. Nick Stock described him as potentially “one of the greatest Australian winemakers ever to make wines in our age”.

Steve’s wines are made with modern Australian food and wine culture at the front of mind. The wines come from a range of stunning McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills vineyards, and are made from sustainable varieties that properly suit his South Australian climate. They're built around brightness of fruit and savoury tannin structure, and whatever your poison is Steve has you covered!

He is truly one of the most forward-thinking and inspirational Australian winemakers alive today.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
