Description

Peter Dredge, maestro of music and mainlining Tassie Riesling, is back with a new trio of wines - Rieslings from the North, South and East of the Apple Isle.

For this beautiful South expression, the Derwent Valley is the source, and like all three Rieslings, it involves whole bunches pressed to old oak casks for nine months.

It has great poise and length, a bit of chalky grip, wild herbs and citrus throughout, and the boisterous acidity is somewhat softened by some residual sugar.

Very limited production, of course.

North, East, South Tasmania Vineyard comparisons are BACK! - in its last iteration, the old classic - Riesling.

Whole clusters are pressed to old oak casks for natural fermentation then left untouched for 9 months. 20% of the casks contained some unpressed whole fruit clusters for the 9 months for added texture.

Exactly like the 2019 North East South Chardonnays in style and production technique but with a little residual sugar. Tasmanian Rieslings are sharp and need the relief. They also need time, hence 9 months on lees and 9 months in bottle before release with almost unlimited ageing potential. Available now and as always, very limited.

Region: Derwent Valley, Tasmania
Blend: Riesling (100%)
ABV: 12.50%
Closure: 750ml

94 Points - "Lavender, juniper and herb perfume, rock salt, pear and citrus. It's saline, fine dusty powdery texture, almost peppery in feel, a zesty tang, aniseed and lemon, with a very firm and tight finish of excellent length. Intense. Will need a few years, but the character of it, and the stuffing is top notch." - Gay Walsh (The Wine Front)

94 Points - "The bouquet is powerful and suggests ginger, eucalyptus and other assorted spices, surely part but not wholly barrel derived, the palate intense and driving, seamlessly harmonious and long, with elegance and poise. The acidity is quite elevated but not overdone—it cleanses the mouth and refreshes the aftertaste. A big, powerful riesling. Fish here, please." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

Dr. Edge

Peter Dredge is Dr. Edge. He is one of the most intuitive and talented winemakers on the Apple Isle.

With a wealth of experience garnered at wineries such as Bay of Fires, he has revitalised the Meadowbank label and returned it to its place as one of the must-watch vineyards in Tasmania.

Dr. Edge is his passion project where he can take risks and make Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Riesling that truly excites him. His creativity can fly under the Dr. Edge banner and wines that walk a fine line of tension, funk and freshness invariably arise.

Only small batches of wine is produced, all made by hand, and typically they sell out in short order. Playful, pleasurable and remarkably thoughtful, the Dr. Edge creations are riveting things to drink and have rightfully earned cult status among collectors of Tasmania's finest.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
