About The Wine

Preservative free wines are very sought after at the moment.

The problem is that many of them invariably end up disappointing. Sure, you want no preservatives but you also you something that is delicious to drink, right? That's where The Puritan comes in.

Battle of Bosworth have modelled this wine off the famous unoaked styles of Tempranillo from Rioja in Spain and according to Gary Walsh "They make a very good fist of this style at BoB.".

It's a fresher style of McLaren Vale Shiraz with high drinkability. It's delicious.

Critic Reviews

DDS review

"When we say Puritan is a bright young thing, it almost precisely describes the style. It is full of dark and red fruits and plums and blackberries, too. Some bramble and violet too. Puritan has a great, vibrant dark purple colour, too which lets you know just how young it is. The palate is soft but with structure." - Battle of Bosworth

Value for money

The bloke likes heavy, aged shiraz styles and I prefer something younger and smoother, with less tannins. Seeking a compromise on a recent night out, we were introduced to this wine by the sommelier at Odyssea in City Beach, and it suited us both. We were thrilled, then, to discover it's available (or was) at such a reasonable price. I hope there's still some available, guys!

From The Producer

Puritan is our bright young thing; picked when the grapes are just ripe and full of red and black berry fruit flavour, cool fermented and then bottled once this process has finished. We don’t use any oak barrels when making Puritan as we want the Shiraz flavours to shine through.

We also call Puritan a ‘Joven’ style wine – stealing the Spanish term for youthful or young. Describes the wine perfectly.

Blend : Shiraz (100%)
Closure : Screw cap
Drink Until : 2022
