2018 Hoddles Creek 1er Yarra Valley Chardonnay
The Hoddles Creek 1er Chardonnay is a wine of exceptional class and intensity.
Made exclusively from fruit grown on the Hoddles Creek estate, this is one of the Yarra Valley's benchmark Chardonnays. The fruit that winemaker Franco D'Anna has to work with is as good as any in the Yarra Valley.
Immensely cellar-worthy and tightly wound, the 1er Chardonnay is only ever released in the best vintages. The 2018 season has revealed a wine that is a touch more open and approachable than usual, which as Gary Walsh observed, is no bad thing.
This is premium Chardonnay done the Yarra Valley way. Buy with supreme confidence.Read more about 2018 Hoddles Creek 1er Yarra Valley Chardonnay
2017 Garagiste Terre Maritime Chardonnay
"A seamless line of flavour that is pure, glassy textured and ridiculously long. Bravo."
- David Bicknell (Halliday Wine Companion)
The Terre Maritime is a new flagship Chardonnay for Barney Flanders to sit alongside the Terre de Feu Pinot Noir as his top releases from the vintage.
This wine comes from the highest portion of the Merricks vineyard. The fruit from these precious few vines has always performed better, showing more intensity and power than the rest of the Merricks block.
With the perfect growing conditions in 2017 Barney finally pulled the trigger and bottled it separately. This is a sensational Chardonnay. Undoubtedly one of the most impressive wines ever released from this benchmark Mornington producer.
Only two barrels were made, this will sell out. Do not hesitate.Read more about 2017 Garagiste Terre Maritime Chardonnay
2018 Serrat Chardonnay
If Yarra Valley Chardonnay is your thing, then there needs to place in your cellar for Serrat.
It's grown and made by Tom Carson, the winemaker at the helm of Yabby Lake, one of Mornington Peninsula's flagship producers, and his wife, Nadège.
The vines that create this wine were planted in 2007. With over a decade in the ground now, the true character of this much talked-about site is truly coming to the fore. The warmer 2018 vintage has resulted in a richer, perhaps more approachable in its youth style, but all the hallmarks of top class Yarra Chardy are there.
Just a handful of bottles available, one to grab while you can!Read more about 2018 Serrat Chardonnay
2018 Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown Brunnen Chardonnay
If you are going to make Beechworth Chardonnay, it is fair to say the bar has been set high.
Names like Giaconda, Savaterre and Sorrenberg have set the standard for the region and they are some big shoes to fill. Tessa Brown and Jeremy Schmolzer are making a very good fist of it.
Their Brunnen Chardonnay comes from the vineyard directly across the road from their own block of fledgeling vines way up in the high country behind Beechworth. It is a beautiful site - cool, high and isolated.
The fruit is treated delicately; predominantly older oak, all natural ferments, malo only happens if it wants too. Nothing about this wine feels forced, it feels like it was nurtured into being. If this is the next generation of Beechworth Chardonnay, there's a bright future ahead for the region.Read more about 2018 Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown Brunnen Chardonnay
2017 Curly Flat Chardonnay
The Curly Flat Chardonnay is a staple for those who want premium Chardonnay with a more 'classic' Australian styling.
It's not shy or reserved, it's a full-bodied Chardonnay proudly on display.
The wine spends 18 months in French oak on lees, building layers of creamy, toasty complexity through the pristine Chardonnay fruit grown on the Curly Flat vineyard.
It's a Chardonnay that drinks beautifully from day one but can develop well for up to a decade in the cellar.
If you're looking for Chardonnay with some style and curves, Curly Flat will be right up up your alley.Read more about 2017 Curly Flat Chardonnay
2018 Joshua Cooper The Old Port Righ Vineyard Chardonnay
This cool climate Chardonnay from Josh Cooper is an absolute cracker.
Gently handled, as is Josh's way, the hand-picked fruit from this old vineyard in the Macedon Ranges was gently pressed for 5 hours then sent to mostly old oak to mature for 12 months on lees.
It's tightly wound, full of flavour and imbued with an electric personality.
His Chardonnay sings of its home, a cool site on Cambrian and granite soils. It's pure Chardonnay of pure class.
Great stuff from Josh and one of the most compelling Chardonnays you will see from a young Australian winemaker.Read more about 2018 Joshua Cooper The Old Port Righ Vineyard Chardonnay
