Ricca Terra Riverland Experience Pack

Riverland, SA

This is a great value tasting pack of the diverse, colourful range grown by one of Australia's best viticulturalists, Ashley Ratcliff.

About The Pack

Ashley Ratcliff is one of the Riverlands most forward-thinking viticultural minds.

After leaving Yalumba to set up his own Riverland vineyard, he began investigating the potential for obscure alternative varieties in his chosen region. Varieties that retain acidity in the heat, such as Grenache Blanc and Arinto have struck a cord, as well as Nero d'Avola, Negroamaro and Tinta Barocca & Tinta Cao which thrive in warmer climes.

His Ricca Terra Vintners label showcases these interesting varieties and their suitability to our climate. Whether straight varietal wines or creative blends, every wine is deliciously approachable and superb value for money.

Check out this awesome tasting pack to see what this vibrant Riverland label is all about.

2019 Ricca Terra Vintners Bronco Buster White Blend

After supplying grapes to some of the country's most exciting new wave winemakers, Ash Ratcliff has now released his own label from his eclectic Ricca Terra Farms. This is a blend of some of Ash's favourite white Mediterranean varieties: Vermentino, Fiano, Greco di Tuffo - and the new comer to his band of brave new varieties - Arinto.

The vines were pruned by hand, picked by hand, co-fermented except for the Arinto portion and brought to bottle with no acid adjustments, something that few wines from the Riverlands could claim. The Bronco Buster is made as a light, smashable wine with enough savoury elements to make it marry perfectly with a wide array of cuisine.

The blend may look to be a little 'out there' but the wine itself is oddly familiar. A great start from Ash and his team and a sign of more great things to come.

2019 Ricca Terra Vintners Grenache Blanc

Here's a real surprise packet from vintner Ashley Ratcliff.

Grenache Blanc is just beginning to make an appearance in Australia. Of the few examples popping up around the country currently, this is the most outstanding we have seen so far.

It's a white wine with beautiful weight and texture. A lick of saline minerality, some cool white stone fruits, sliced pears - it's somewhere in the Chablis-esque/Muscadet sort of direction, if you are looking for a point of reference.

We loved this wine. It's brilliant value and we highly recommend it if you're looking to discover something new.

2019 Terra do Rio Arinto

Of all the white varieties thriving on Ricca Terra Farms, Ash Ratcliff thinks Arinto may have one of the biggest futures - he's backing it in.

It's not hard to see why. The variety holds great acidity, is bright and full of flavour, and most importantly, makes delicious white wines perfect for our warm Australian climate.

Portugal is its home but it looks like Arinto is finding a new happy hunting ground here, and Ash Ratcliff and his Ricca Terra crew are at the front of the pack.

2019 Ricca Terra Vintners Bullets Before Cannonballs

Ash Ratcliff is one of the sharpest minds growing grapes in Australia with a vision towards a new Riverland. The "Bullets Before Cannonballs" concept is something Ash has used extensively during his time in the Riverland. The idea being, you shoot loads of 'bullets' - small trials of new varieties - and when you see one excelling you light the fuse on a cannonball and go deep on that variety.

It's a methodology which is yielding great results for Ricca Terra Farms. This wine is a fiery blend of the red varieties that have excelled for him so far: Nero d’Avola, Lagrein, Montepulciano, and Tempranillo.

The finished wine is flush with dark fruits and exotic spice. Great value to be had here and a super versatile red for any night of the week.

2018 Ricca Terra Vintners Nero d'Avola

Ash Ratcliff's patch of dirt in the Riverland is prime real estate for growing Nero d'Avola.

Nero was one of the first varieties planted at Ricca Terra. The rich red soils and warm, dry climate make it the perfect place for this loveable grape to thrive.

Ash reffers to it as his 'King of Kings' for red varieties. It's plump, sweetly fruited but bedded with fine spicy tannin.

Medium weight but with maxium impact, this is a lovely red wine that is incredibly versatile and is pretty much guaranteed to be universally loved by everyone at your next get together.

2019 Terra do Rio Tinta Cao

So many interesting things emerging from the brick red soils of Ricca Terra. Here's a rare bird that is starting to take flight.

Tinta Cao is a red grape native to Portugal. It's traditionally used as a key part of the local blends for their legendary fortifieds. Here it gets to showcase its own identity as a table wine.

Like most Portuguese reds, it's about flavour, body and ooddles of spice.

It's a rough and tough character with slicked back hair - slippery, saucy and ready for a night on the town.
