About The Pack
If you were to call us up here at DD and say, "could you please put together a mixed six pack of full-bodied reds? Thank you very much."
Firstly, we would compliment you on your excellent manners, then we would direct you to this mixed pack.
This pack is designed for any lover of big-bodied reds. A range of varieties, regions, and even countries are on offer here, with two things in common - they all delivery plenty of flavour and plenty of bang-for-your-buck.
2019 Nick Spencer Gundagai Medium Dry Red
One of Nick Spencer's most formative experiences in wine was the 2011 Len Evans Tutorial where he had the rare opportunity to sample some of the worlds most famous wines under exam conditions.
Amongst the flights of DRC and First Growth Bordeaux, Nick says the wines that moved him most were the great old Australian red wines of the 1960s and 1970s. These were blended wines, with a house style the primary focus rather than the emphasis on regional or varietal wines which is so prevalent in Australian wine today.
The Gundagai Red is Nick's attempt to bring that old blended philosophy into the modern day. It's a wine that shows ripe blue fruit characters, a vibrant nose of violets and spice and silky decadent tannins which should see it mature nicely over the medium-long term.Read more about 2019 Nick Spencer Gundagai Medium Dry Red
2019 Tonic Wines Grenache
The same two Clare Valley vineyard sources combine in the 2019 release of Tonic Grenache, with an import addition of some fruit from 50-year-old vines planted in McLaren Vale.
The fruit is picked early precisely to maintain the beguiling floral aromatics that present in Grenache, in a drier vintage like 2019, this is even more important.
This is man-handled as little as possible on its way to bottle. A small amount of whole bunch in the ferment, only a gentle racking before bottling with a dash of sulphur. What you get is the very essence of SA Grenache; brightly fruited, impossibly drinkable and more-ish to the last glass.
If you've never tried the tantalising wines styles from Tonic, or never had a modern style of Grenache that has blown your socks off, there is no better way you could spend $32.Read more about 2019 Tonic Wines Grenache
2018 La Prova Nero d'Avola
Sam Scott's prowess with Italian varieties naturally extends naturally to Nero d'Avola. He gets the balance of sweet and savoury just right in this release out of McLaren Vale.
As a wine designed for his own enjoyment, Sam has got this one just right. Nero is such an affable variety, perfectly suited to pizza nights - here is an archetypal example.
Another winning release for this reliably excellent value producer based in the Adelaide Hills.Read more about 2018 La Prova Nero d'Avola
2018 Laura Catena La Posta Paulucci Malbec

2018 Paralian Blewitt Springs Grenache Shiraz
Grenache and Shiraz are the two red pillars of the Paralian label.
Here, Charlie & Skye combine the powers of both varieties to give a little snapshot of what McLaren Vale does best.
This melds the sweet red fruits and snappy spice of the Marmont vineyard Grenache with the smooth, sumptuous sensibilities of the Shiraz grown on the Springs Hill Vineyard.
This is a classic McLaren Vale red from a modern McLaren Vale outfit. It's only going to get better with time in bottle, if you can keep your hands of it, that is.Read more about 2018 Paralian Blewitt Springs Grenache Shiraz
2019 Mada Shiraz
Hamish Young's Mada Shiraz is a very seductive wine.
The fruit comes from three vineyards in the Murrumbateman area, one providing incredible perfume, the other two contributing underlying power.
A around half of the fruit was fermented as whole bunches, and only around 25% new oak used in the maturation of the wine. This is the essence of silky, slippery Canberra Shiraz. A wine that oozes sex appeal.
Hamish has not put a foot wrong since starting his own label in 2016, and this gorgeous Shiraz is yet another notch in his belt.Read more about 2019 Mada Shiraz
