2018 Jean Foillard Morgon Cote du Py
Jean Foillard is one of the most iconic names in modern day Beaujolais.
His unfettered expressions of the great vineyards of the region have amassed a massive cult-following, both at home and abroad. His wines are considered benchmarks of Beaujolais.
Using traditional practices, Foillard weaves a mesmerising tapestry of texture, clarity and energy through each of his creations. The Côte du Py is his most sought-after cuveé. Very little of it makes it to Australian shores.
This is arguably the most respected winemaker in Beaujolais today, wielding fruit from the most revered vineyard. A formidable combination which year-in, year-out produces majestic wines.
If you want to know what Cru Beaujolais is about, you won't find a better example.Read more about 2018 Jean Foillard Morgon Cote du Py
2018 Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Tradition
Jean-Paul Thevenet is one of the original - and now legendary - 'Gang of Four', alongside other Beaujolais luminaries: Guy Breton, Jean Foillard and Marcel Lapierre.
A winemaker with a deep respect for tradition, Thevenet farms his old vines with an organic approach, expressing the nuance of his little patch of dirt with as little intervention as possible. Perhaps the most 'old school' of the four, Jean-Paul's wines are pure, expressive and have a rare life to them.
Now, his son Charly has joined him in the cellar since 2008 and the family tradition continues.
Speaking of tradition - this wine showcases the purity, levity, and gravitas of great Cru Beaujolais that will be the tradition of the best producers of the region for many years to come. This is Morgon in full flight - both vividly vibrant and earthily structured. It's a beautiful expression that will continue to evolve for many years to come.Read more about 2018 Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Tradition

2018 Chateau Thivin Cote de Brouilly l’Heronde
Chateau Thivin is one of the the premier producers of Beaujolais.
The Geoffray family have produced wines in the area for six generations. They are been one of the spearheads of the revitalisation of Beaujolais, where traditional winemaking and great vineyards have converged into some of the best value reds in all of Burgundy.
This is one of the family's elite single vineyard Cru examples of the famed Cote de Brouilly.
l’Heronde is made from the best portions of a single site halfway up Mount Brouilly with a southern aspect. The rest of the fruit is declassified into another cuveé allowing this to be the purest expression of this vineyard.
It's a luscious, vivid Beaujolais showing vibrant purple fruits and fantastic crushed-rock tannins. It's delicious now and will cellar a treat.Read more about 2018 Chateau Thivin Cote de Brouilly l’Heronde
2018 Pierre Marie Chermette Les Griottes Beaujolais
Pierre-Marie Chermette took over his family vineyards in 1982.
From the very beginning he had a vision to produce a more serious, quasi-Burgundian example of Gamay from his homeland. When bubble-gummy, frivolous Beaujolais was all the rage, Pierre-Marie was making serious wines for the best restaurants in Paris.
He continues his passions and focus to this day.
The Les Griottes is his young vine expression of Gamay. The vines for this cuveé are between 20 - 40 years old. It's produced in a traditional way, with semi-carbonic maceration, however it spends less time on skins than the other cuveés from this producer to preserve freshness and early drinkability.Read more about 2018 Pierre Marie Chermette Les Griottes Beaujolais
2018 Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette Beaujolais
Daniel Bouland is one of Beaujolais' modern day luminaries.
One of only six producers in the region to have received two stars or better by the revered Le Classement de Revue du Vins de France, his wines have a feverish cult following in France, so much so that allocations bound for Australia get tighter each year.
His wines are staunchly traditional, fermented with 100% whole bunches and then aged in predominantly large, neutral oak. His Morgons are his most sought-after cuveés. They come from vines around 60 years on on the sandy soils, as opposed to the schist-dominant portions of the famous slope.
This is deeply set with fruit yet feels frisky to drink. It's a pure, delicious example of one of the region's great crus.Read more about 2018 Daniel Bouland Morgon Corcelette Beaujolais
