About This Wine
Sourced from vineyards across Santorini, some of which are over 100 years-old, this wine itself is what this indigenous variety is all about. Minerality is at the fore, saline, with a driving citrus palate, think blossoms, lemongrass, but again the stoney soils of the island impart such an intense mineral character that everything else is relegated to a secondary character.
There is a real electricity to this wine in its steely leanness. It’s as white as the chalk caves for which the island is known.
About Argyros Estate
Established in 1903 Estate Argyros is the largest private owner of vineyards in Santorini, with over 120 ha of vineyards, the representation of investment over 4 generations of the Argyros family.
It was only in the 1970’s however, that the estate began to gain attention outside of Greece.
It was Yiannis Argyros who worked tirelessly for more than three decades to prove that his Vin-Santos are some of the finest, rarest, sweet wines in the world. Moreover, Yiannis was instrumental in pushing the idea that Assyritko can produce exceptional still dry wines as well.
Now run by the 4th generation of the family, Matthaios, they farm their vineyards in a sustainable manner, as well as utilising mainly indigenous yeasts for their fermentations.
