This is a ripper, and distinct in its expression. Watch out, summer.
About The Wine
This electric version of Semillon comes from the Southern end of Adelaide Hills.
This is a little more textural than most straight Semillons, a little foot-treading and time in older oak barrels lifting this from 'dry white' to a high energy white that crackles across the plate.
Mike Bennie rated it 93 points.
If you're seeking more interesting expressions of this often-overlooked variety, this is a cracker!
About Golden Child
Golden Child is the project of father-and-son team, David and James Hamilton. David grows the grapes from his own vineyard in Kuitpo in the southern Adelaide Hills, while son James uses his wealth of winemaking experience to bring the wines to bottle.
Having their own 20+-year-old vineyard gives the Hamiltons enormous flexibility with the wines and allows James to craft some pretty unique offerings. The fruit is all hand-picked, fermented with natural yeasts and crafted together gently and with minimum additions.
The range is wide, colourful and wholly enjoyable - this is a new Hills producer to keep an eye on.
