Description

A little adventure into the unknown, Gareth has left the Adelaide Hills, and ventured into the Vale for his Village Grenache.

From the famed sandy soils of Blewitt Springs comes this vibrant and lively wine. Blewitt has really solidified itself as the home of Aussie Grenache, and why not? With so much old-vine material, the region is a winemaker's dream with so much amazing fruit on offer.

Lots of red berries on the nose and in the mouth and the silky texture and subtle tannin profile works a treat here - it's a cracking wine.

We couldn't not have a play with this insane old bush-vine Grenache from the sands of Blewitt Springs. Raspberry and redcurrant on the nose and in the mouth it has those subtle and silky tannins we all love in Grenache. A treasure.
Vinification: Our only foray into another region but its just across the border…half the wine is from a ferment with 20% whole cluster maceration for 28 days, the second half of the wine is 100% whole cluster, fermented for three months. After pressing both components spent eight months in neutral French oak barriques and terracotta eggs.

90 Points - "Yummy stuff but a fuller and plusher expression. More neck oil than cerebral. Warm, forest berry compote, sweet spices and soft tannin is the go. Feels rich and round, a little formless but enjoyable in its melange of ripe fruit and spice. Breathy-warm finish not for me but for some a welcome fullness. Monochromatic but beautifully made. Blood orange lift helps elevate the wine. If generosity and grenache is your game, then this works a treat." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

95 Points - "Blewitt Springs grenache grown on 82-year-old vines; 20% whole bunches in the ferment, then matured in a combination of used French oak and terracotta eggs. Reserved on the nose but the palate is a powerhouse. This is the bright, beautiful face of modern Australian grenache. Red-cherried fruit, tips of red licorice, fragrant herbs and a combination of saltbush, sandalwood and purple flowers. The tannin goes on and on, and the fruit rides with it." - Campbell Mattinson (Halliday Wine Companion)

Gentle Folk

Gareth and Rainbo Belton are the Gentle Folks, both in name and in sensibility. They are gentle, soulful people, both originally seaweed experts, who turned their hands to farming grapes with an organic and sustainable approach. Today they are crafting some of the most legitimately exciting and exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Adelaide Hills and are firmly rooted in the upper echelon of Australia's lo-fi wine scene.

Their wines cover multiple sub-regions across the Adelaide Hills. There are no additions during the winemaking process, save for a splash of SO2 at bottling to keep the wines pristine as they travel from the Beltons' home to yours. The worlds of fine wine and natural wine collide in the Gentle Folk range. They are beautiful people making increasingly breathtaking wines that you definitely want to check out.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
