Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier is the benchmark for Australian cool-climate Shiraz. This year marks the winery's 50th anniversary. In half a century, it has achieved so much.
What Tim Kirk and his team have done for Australian wine since Tim's transformative trip to Cotê-Rôtie in 1991 is nothing short of revolutionary. They presented Australian Shiraz in a new light and showed the world that Aussie Shiraz wasn't just a one-trick pony from South Australia.
On the 2019 release, Kirk says that while the yields were down in 2019, it's one of the more powerful vintages he can recall. It was a warmer than average season that produced opulent, seductive Shiraz laden with spice and deep, penetrating fruit.
"Yields were 20% down, but what we lost in volume we gained in intensity... Come harvest time we picked some of the richest, darkest fruit we have seen at Clonakilla."
With no 2020 vintage to be released due to bushfires, the 2019 is in hot demand. If you want to secure your allocation of the country's best value icon Shiraz, now is the time.
What The Critics Are Saying...

- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
"Some wines have such distinct DNA. This is one of them. It packs so many layers of flavour and depth, yet never moves much beyond medium body... vibrancy and a promise it will last some distance yet."
- Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)
"This is powerful, dark, plush and cellarworthy."
- Winsor Dobbin
