- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
If you are on the hunt for delightful, intriguing whites built for casual drinking; this should be right up on your hit-list. The Pret-a-Blanc is the all-rounder in the VS&B range. Comprised of King Valley Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris, careful blending and attention to detail has taken this textural, Alsatian inspired blend to a wonderful place. Mike Bennie summed up the 2017 vintage wonderfully with these words, "This is such wonderful drinking, ballistically refreshing, quietly complex. Has it all." - 93+ points. Whether it's accompanying food or flying solo, the Pret-a-Blanc is wine jam-packed with charisma that will suit all occasions.
What it Tastes Like
This is pithy, perfumed, and pretty and impossible to stop drinking. Flowers galore, from citrus blossom to frangipani and musk. Smells so good. In there mouth there's a crisp attack from the Riesling - sharp dart-like acidity that softens to a gentle fluffy mid-palate with a hint of chalk. Blisteringly good to drink.
93+ points "This wine comes from ‘bought fruit’ but there’s grand consideration in the relationships with vines and site, here from the King Valley, though VS&B call Beechworth home. Riesling dominant aromatic white here, produced ala Austrian inspiration in a round about way. Higher altitude, fresher vibes, spice, basket pressed for texture. Consideration in spades. One of Australia’s most dynamic and legacy-making wine projects, though project makes it sound a touch twee. Citrus spectrum scents, whiff of that greenery of lemon myrtle, almost an ozone scent, flint and wet slate, mineral charged at least. Scintillating in the palate. Rapier-thrust of cool, lean, bristling citrus-green apple-white flesh pear flavours and a starburst of explosive mineral character, though the finish has a lick of alpine herbs. This is such wonderful drinking, ballistically refreshing, quietly complex. Has it all." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown
Tessa and Jeremy are playing a long-game with their Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown label. They have invested in a block of land and planted 10,000 vines on it over the last couple of years with plans of managing it fully organically. It comes as no surprise to me that the buzz around this husband and wife team is palpable and the praise is high.
Max Allen recently called them, “one of a remarkable number of impressive new wine labels to have cropped up in Beechworth over the last five years.” - they are going to be at the forefront of Beechworth wine for many years to come.
Beechworth is a small wine producing region with a big reputation. The distinctive terroir in this part of the country produces some of our most iconic wines. If you want serious Chardonnay or Rhone-inspired Shiraz/Syrah, you want to get to know Beechworth. Some of the most powerful cool climate wines in the country hail from here, and some of our future stars are making it their home. The future looks very bright for this champion Victorian region.
Riesling is the king of white grapes. With unparalleled versatility, it rightfully carries the ‘Noble’ name tag. We make extraordinary Riesling in Australia, from far and wide. From the classic searing, razor-sharp styles in the Clare and Eden Valleys to the fragrant and enchanting wines of the Great Southern, Australian Riesling is a chameleon that can take on many forms. Sweet, steely, lean or textured, the world of Riesling is a thing of wonder that should be explored by all true lovers of wine.
