- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Alex Head only makes a Rosé when the vintage allows but when he does, it’s incredibly popular.
He has two Grenache vineyards in the Barossa that he uses for this wine, and when the stars align, he picks these vineyards early specifically for making Rosé.
A touch more sweetness than the last couple of vintages, but if you are serious about your pinks then you should love this wine. Pure and simple.
What It Tastes Like
Rose petal, turckish delight, crushed cranberries and orange peel. A slight Negroni like feel. A touch of sweet boiled lolly. There’s some crunch here, a crisp glassy ride of fresh berried fruit. Clean as a whistle. Immense drinkability.
This is a vintage permitting wine and I have been able to make it a few times. The fruit is now exclusively sourced from two Grenache vineyards in the north of the Barossa owned and farmed by the Waechter & Falkenberg families. The grapes are hand harvested earlier than red wine production and pressed (Vin Gris style) directly into a stainless steel tank where a cool, natural fermentation to bone-dry takes place on full solids.

About the Producer
Alex Head has had what you might call a meteoric rise through the Australian wine industry. In his short career as a producer he has been heralded as one of the best Young Gun Winemakers, not only in the Barossa but the whole country. With no formal training as a winemaker, the purity and balance inherent in the wines are amazing.
Alex has a passion for the old vineyards that populate the Barossa. With a keen eye for a good site, Alex has put together a formidable portfolio of vineyards which produce simply outstanding renditions of Shiraz and Grenache year-in, year-out.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
Grenache is the great sleeping giant of Australian red wine. We are the custodians of the oldest producing Grenache vines in the world, some ancient vineyards planted as far back as the 1850’s. Modern Australian Grenache is a different beast to the wines of yesteryear, they are more youthful and vibrant, showing bright red fruit characters, silky tannins and a delicious array of spices. With the viticultural resources we have at our disposal in this country, Australia can be one of the world’s leading producers of this variety, making wines that easily rival the best of Europe.
