Who better to make an Australian interpretation of Provence styled Rosé then a Frenchman who has worked in Provence?
The Portet family were one of the pioneers of this modern, dry, savoury style of Rosé and this is one of their best releases to date. Made from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot - this is a deceptively textural style of Rosé given that it never sees a wooden barrel.
It’s dry, crisp and ludicrously easy to drink. This is consistently one of the great bargains of Australian Rose.
What It Tastes Like
A softly creamy style of Rose. Delicate floral notes, red berries, a crisp seam of acidity flowing through the core of the wine. It’s bright and bristling with lively red fruits. Sweet/sour working in tandem. Delicious warm weather drinking.
The blend 60% Shiraz, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot. We picked the fruit by hand before gently crushing and pressing it. We fermented it in stainless steel tanks for essential freshness and to accentuate its attractive aromas. We stirred the lees regularly to give the wine a soft texture and to add creamy complexity.
The wine is a pretty, light salmon pink in colour. It shows floral perfume and sweet, pretty red fruits on the nose, as well as a slight pepperiness. Merlot and Shiraz combine to give the palate a spicy red-berry intensity, while the Cabernet adds a suggestion of blackberries. It has a gentle, creamy mouthfeel, and fine natural acidity draws out the palate to a pleasing, aromatic finish. This is as refreshing, satisfying and moreish a rosé as you could

About the Producer
Dominique Portet, quite simply, is international winemaking royalty. From a winemaking family that stretches back 10 generations in Bordeaux, his father Andre Portet was régisseur (vineyard and winery manager) of Chateau Lafite-Rothschild in Pauillac.
He is one of the original “Flying Winemaker’s”, having scoured the world in search of new and interesting exploits in wine which eventually lead him to the Yarra Valley. Here Portet found “… wines with a fragrance and structure reminiscent of the wines of Bordeaux. The Yarra has a charm and a beauty that engulfs you, and its wines are worldly.” and chose this as his home away from home.
