Carefully crafting a spot on Rosé can be a tricky business. It may seem simple from the outside but there are a lot of decisions to be made along the way.
Take this fantastic Rosé from McLaren Vale outfit, Bondar. The fruit is picked from three sites, including from their famous home block, the Rayner vineyard. Two of the batches were fermented in ceramic egg, the third in barrel with some more pressings to get a little extra grip and "stuffing" in the mid palate.
Suffice to say, Andre has nailed this release. The 2017 is near impossible to put down.
Theirs is a wildly successful crack at this now insanely popular "Provence" inspired style of Rosé. A lovely 93 point review from Mike Bennie was always on the cards.
If you like your pinks dry but full flavoured with delicacy and power in equal proportion - you're going to love this!
What it Tastes Like
"Rose water, faint Turkish Delight, ultra perfumed with sweet spice, pomegranate, cranberry. So fine in the palate, bone china delicate, cranberry-tang, a web of ultra lacy yet firm, talc-like tannins. Great extension of flavour, great feel of freshness and vitality. Drink up!" - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
93 points. "‘Fresh bright style is what we’re going with’, says Andre Bondar. There’s quite a bit of technique and detail in the winemaking, despite the delicacy of the wine. Very well crafted from three sites including Bondar’s own Rayner Vineyard. Rose water, faint Turkish Delight, ultra perfumed with sweet spice, pomegranate, cranberry. So fine in the palate, bone china delicate, cranberry-tang, a web of ultra lacy yet firm, talc-like tannins. Great extension of flavour, great feel of freshness and vitality. Drink up!" - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
A pale, dry rosé made from the McLaren Vale, our beautiful home by the sea. We hand-picked Grenache vines early in the season, to capture the brightness; the fresh aromas and flavours that we love in this variety. And we crafted this delicate wine from the fruit, designed to be best enjoyed in its youth (now, or soon).

About the Producer
Bondar is the baby of husband-and-wife team Andre Bondar and Selina Kelly, and winners of the 2017 Australian Wine Companion’s Best New Winery! They have purchased the famous Rayner vineyard in McLaren Vale, crafting stunning Shiraz and Grenache from here, along with beautifully pure Adelaide Hills Chardonnay. I’ll leave it to them to describe what their extremely exciting venture is all about: _“Our vision has always been to make wines that create a little intrigue, that are a little different. We want to make wines that are bright, structured, mid-weight yet concentrated in flavour with a savoury element.” Super value, tiny production and delicious to drink!
The South Australian region of McLaren Vale is famous for its powerful red wines. Shiraz and Grenache have thrived for years in the Vale’s sandy soils. Nowadays, the region’s varietal diversity has majorly increased, the coastal location and warm climate proving perfect for a new wave of varieties from Italy, Spain and Portugal. The success of varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, and Fiano has transformed McLaren Vale into one of the country’s most vibrant wine scenes. It’s where tradition meets innovation and it is producing some of the Australia’s finest wines.
Grenache is the great sleeping giant of Australian red wine. We are the custodians of the oldest producing Grenache vines in the world, some ancient vineyards planted as far back as the 1850’s. Modern Australian Grenache is a different beast to the wines of yesteryear, they are more youthful and vibrant, showing bright red fruit characters, silky tannins and a delicious array of spices. With the viticultural resources we have at our disposal in this country, Australia can be one of the world’s leading producers of this variety, making wines that easily rival the best of Europe.
